Apple Stepping In To The Console War?

Hi everyone. Just wanted to get some opinions on this topic... Will Apple take a bold step into the console war, or continue in the casual gaming market that has given it much success in the past and present? What threats may it pose if it does?

I personally believe that it may be announced by Apple within the next 3-5 years. They have gotten involved in many forms of media, and home gaming is one of the ones they have left untouched. It seems logical that they will. They will be good competition for the existing companies.

What do you think?

I don't think they will but the only thing that I can picture in my mind is a first person shooter where you hunt Om Nom's.

If Apple enters into the console wars again, we'll just end up with another machine that can play crappy $1 apps, or just have another Pippin situation.

True... but keep in mind that Apple has changed since 1995. Then, their primary interest was personal computers. That^ is an example of trying to make money without the means to do it. When they tried to start iTunes with Sony, who had already gained success in music with the Walkman, they were turned down. Now, they have more market value than Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo. They had no problem overcoming the Walkman and other players in the music market, what should stop them from entering this one?

LOL exactly. A console by Apple would be a lot worse than the PS3.
