I'm pretty sure he means Standard definition Television 480 i or 480p Which is non HD

He's jumping on the typo I made where I hit S instead of C in CRT.

A huge number of Cathode ray tube sets were HD because they were PC monitors which are high def but most CRT domestic sets were standard definition. Clearly though before flat panels took over there were premium CRT sets that were high def but they made up a tiny percentage of CRT sets sold.

What is SDTV ?

You have your terms mixed up because SDTV is a PR term for 480i-480p signal standard.

720p is "HD Ready"
1080p is "Full HD"

TVs that only support 480i is an SDTV
TVs that support up to 480p are considered "EDTV" (Enhanced Definition) These are uncommon.
TVs that either support up to 720p or 1080p are both considered HDTVs. Sometimes the 1080p TV are called "Full HD"

CRT Monitors generally are for computers (they use a Cathode-Ray Tube to display the picture), and can support high resolutions, but are heavy and outdated and not sold anymore, because they are considered inferior to LCD monitors.

And you can get a small HDTV fairly cheap, but it's not that big of a deal. The graphics will be the same, the picture quality will go down a bit, but the graphics will still look great.

I read that HD Ready isn't "full" HD. But if you're on a budget it shouldn't matter too much. I think full is 1080p?

HD ready means it can handle 720p. Which is the bottom line for HD. Full is 1080p which is the highest resolution for most tvs.
