2. Like so many people have said already, I don't need DVD/Blu-Ray playback on a game console. It can be a convenient perk, but it isn't necessary.

That means a much higher cost. As long as they have Netflix or an equivalent im not too worried

It would be a pleasant addition to the console, but it isn't needed. Plus, adding blu-ray support would raise the cost, Nintendo's doing us all a favor by keeping the price down.
I agree with this, it would have been nice but I'm not going to shout about it like I would have it they had said it wasn't HD or something. The good thing about Nintendo was that their consoles have always been affordable, well, until the 3DS.

How many homes(considering that you can afford the Wiiu and the games)don't have a DVD player?
I have 6 as of right now.
Of them 6 probably only one gets used.

And the other one of mine shares the TV with the wii the rest are my brother's, mom's, dad's.
They are used. Do I need them? No, not really.
