This is a topic to discuss guitars and guitarplaying, so discuss.
The electric guitar is my favourite instrument, mainly because I like metal and rock the most I guess.. Accoustic guitar comes in second. In short, I like guitars, and I have both types myself and "Play" them.
As for my personal problems.. I'm kind of... Stuck. I don't know how to progress. I can't afford lessons. I know all basic open chords (guess I'll have to learn 7's now? Or move to barre chords but they are hard sometimes..) but I don't feel like I earned much of it, mainly because I always have a hard time figuring out strumming patterns, how many times to strum a chord and stuff you know.. Just figuring it all out. In terms of electric the hardest song I can play is, I think, Afterlife or Wherever I may Roam.. but again I'm kinda stuck.

Don't focus too much on learning songs. Learning songs will come along after you learn the basics.
The key to learning an instrument is lots of practice. I've been playing 2 and a half years and I still don't know everything. If you were wanting to learn guitar because of songs, look up some "how to play" videos on youtube to try to learn some songs. Don't focus too much on songs, and try to learn some standard notation and what all the individual notes are. If you can't afford lessons, I think there are guitar books that will help you immensely. Books is how I began to start learning, so I think it will help you immensely if you get some kind of guitar book. I think there is even a guitar for dummies book last time I checked.
So don't be discouraged. Keep practicing, try learning some simple songs and riffs, and try getting a book.
Right now I'm placing my guitar lessons on hold since I moved to a different state, and have been focusing on some songs. I'm just having fun, really. I will resume learning though soon.

Thanks!
Well, playing guitar was a choice I made because I wanted to play my favourite songs, mostly songs of Metallica and bands like that, and I think playing full songs is a good way of practicing, especially playing along: it helps with timing, and it pushes you somehow, but it might be better to focus less on those songs yes.. Sometimes I feel like a bad player even for a beginner because I can't play a certain song, but I just have to work on my skill I guess?
There is this site, www.justinguitar.com. It was recommended to me by several people and I kinda like it. I'm at the part of learning 7's (B7 for example, which is a mother dog) but I rarely encountered it in a song.. But this may be my song focussing again.
