Remember a while back that Nintendo patented the "Massively Single Player Online" idea. This is it. Your interactions can affect other gamer's single player experiences.
Let's also type it out as O-live, or we will get too many people asking for kalamatas.

I don't think so. She preceeded with the word 'new', followed it up with 'system' and she did pronounce it as "oh", plus she was in a thinking state, trying to recall what it was.I think she just said online wrong on accident, because you hear some guy asking about multiplayer before she says it.
I feel she put label on it as opposed to using a general word.

No, I don't think that's what's happening. Your friend's interactions with you in the game are being automated, so you can't join. Basically, with this title, when you die (and have your online active), your death is broadcast to the people on your friends list. Basically, the first person to reach the place where you died (again, assuming they are actively online) will encounter your zombie. If they succeed in taking it down, you get to keep the stash, and you and all your other friends will no longer have the opportunity.Maybe you could join that persons game and try to get to that persons character first while the friend has started up a new character? In mission select you are continuing using that character you had used? I personally don't understand, I have had no clarity on a majority of these games.
As for using characters, once a character dies, that's it. They've become a zombie, and you'll be given a new character. Anyone on your friends list, and you, can go and attack that zombie for whatever you were previously holding. That said, you'd probably want to be the first to get to it.
With all that, there is quite literally no teamwork in this game. It really is survival of the fittest.

She said it on purpose. No accident.
It sure seemed like a slip. But Nintendo could call it something else by launch, since they haven't announced it in detail yet.
Kind of her just revealing a temp name for the stuff shown on Nintendo direct.

I die, the game posts a message to the miiverse thread for the game, socialmuscle goes to find my zombie, kills me steals my stuff then I lose it all.
