AndThe Dragon Quest X MMO supports a second player option using the Gamepad, even when the game is completely online (minus the tutorial zone). So perhaps it will allow more local multiplay for online games with more Gamepad options.
....
Maybe we will get DQX to play "

Wonder how it's gonna work for MH3U.
I think RPGS and Strategy games would gain the most. Especially if there is co-op and co-op online play

Two controllers AND the TV at 720p is 1,741,440 pixels. Bearing in mind 1080p is 2,073,600 pixels and if the guesstimate of the GPU is correct I suspect its just about able to handle 1080p at current-gen quality, as long as whatever is on the game pad is fairly primitive.
Four game pads would be 1,639,680 pixels which would clearly leave nothing left for rendering the TV screen, unless you wanted it running at Wii resolution.
There is one scenario I thought up where it could be useful and possibly even practical though. Four player split screen on the TV and output each section to a gamepad, so that you aren't actually rendering more than 1080p.
It would be awesome for parties so guests can see what is happening in the game while the players do not need to see the TV at all.
However there is the more obvious fact that how many people are going want to buy three additional game pads when that would cost more than the Wii U itself? Arguably it would be just as practical to use the 3DS for that kind of gaming as at least then you get to use them on a day to day basis too, not JUST at parties.

But people all over "Teh internetz" started immediately questioning why the Wii U was shown with only one pad, etc.
By then, launch games were pretty far along and were coded for a certain spec. It was too late to include support. Especially since the multiplayer capabilities of many games was built around the principle of asymmetric Play.
Nintendo listened, bumped up the Wii U spec, and built it to seamlessly support TWO gamepads.
Games are now being coded for that (and all games have additional horsepower available as a result, whether they use two pads or one).
Next year, you will start to see support.

What u "don't know" is that Nintendo originally designed the Wii U for "asymmetric gameplay" only. And the specs used to reflect that.

1GB is a hell of a lot for a console at this point in time.

The only think that bugs me is that, if I break my Gamepad, I can't go to Wal-mart to buy a new one. But I'm VERY careful with things; especially video game things.
Just don't rage quit.

Ahahahahaha, that made me laugh

Anywho, I think some of over speculating. A reason as to why there is no game pad being sold separately has been made and the points Socalmuscle made are really great. Just sit back and relax guise.

Im with u 100%
I take care of everything i have, but just what if something happens? Then your be sending it off to nintendo and waiting for it to come back. I also want to know how much it would cost. I remember hearing some time ago that the game pad or both wii u and pad cost around $189 in parts.
So does this mean we could be paying $150-$200 just for the pad?

I really really hope Nintendo and Developers don't move towards supporting 2 Gamepads. I know the Gamepad is awesome, but it is super expensive. Also as mentioned, it will consume more resources to run. I'm hoping Nintendo and developers can find a way to keep games and multiplayer centered around only having 1 Gamepad per system. Having to buy $40 Wii Motes and $50 Pro controllers is enough...
It's already been confirmed that it does support 2 gamepads. This was implemented not too long ago, so we won't be seeing games for a bit that feature it. I don't see the issue though, it's not a game requirement, it's more or less a luxury...

It's 1GB+ actually.
There is not a hardwired barrier.
It's something that allows for many awesome OS features simultaneous with games, replys, "moments" vid sharing, etc. all at once.
1 GB is a ton for a game, but that's not all there is.
"other Satoru" stated it that way to keep it a simple concept.

the Wii U also used to have anywhere from 768 - 1.5 GB RAM.
Now it has 2.
Great for 2 Gamepads - or for better textures, etc.
