I'm not putting Nintendo down at all here but weren't there reports saying that very few WiiU were being sent to shops considering it was the launch of the next generation of consoles?
Obviously this gets everybody on the hype train and it's worked perfectly! All we know is that they're sold out, not the actual number of preorders.

I don't think anyone has been saying the Wii U's sold over 9 million or anything involving numbers.

Each store had like 20 launch day then where getting like 5-10 every 2weeks.
Nintendo made a deman for the system. Either way i got my deluxe preorder.
My gamestop guy there was only eight left after i got mines i think there was a total of 10 hat ,that store was gping to get. Then he said they would get about 20-25 white ones for launch day.
I just know nintendo said they where going to be limited because who ever is building thrm cant turn them out fast enough.

yh ur absolutely right, its not that they've shipped millions and there are millions of pre orders. there is limited supply, but to be honest, this is still awesome. the fact that the internet ALONE is buying up all the wii us that have been shipped (no matter how few) is still impressive. however, this isn't a guarantee the wii situation will repeat. but its still a positive sign so fingers crossed its even more intense than wii was which is very possible considering the lineup

I'm wondering if this'll turn out to be like the Wii situation, with the console flying off shelves faster than hot cakes. Along with ludicrous prices on eBay and the console being out of stock for months on end. Already pre ordered my deluxe bundle, but I don't want anyone else to miss out.

This is part of Nintendo marketing technique. They create much more demand this way.

Same as the first wii. Its a marketing thing. But also they said they had problem turning out the tablets in time, so not alot of systems are made yet.

You are absolutely correct. I pre-ordered on Wednesday September 14th of last week, and employee said I was first 10 to pre-order the Deluxe and then it Sold Out the next day. I'm guessing, only 10 Deluxes will be shipped Day 1, as well as about 20 ish White consoles. Either way, I'm going to go at 6pm and at 8pm just in case the line starts developing.

I agree with this. Besides, generating hype is a good marketing technique. Did you see the headlines?

Also its a brand new console and it has to be manufactured on a new production line. There may be problems doing so, which legitimately means there will be a limited supply before Christmas. That's part of the hype for the console. Only a certain number of people can enjoy it for this christmas season due to manufacturing restraints.

I've pre-ordered mine. I never bothered with the original wii at launch but instead got one years later. However the wii u has far more appeal to me. I'm not really a hardcore gamer but the wii u package is more interesting and the games look to be more appealling to my tastes. Not a good omen though as my last console bought at launch was the Gamecube. The Gamecube was an incredible console but not the greatest of successes for Nintendo. If it looks like the launch is going pear shaped though I'll bail out and buy a wii u later when they are cheaper.
