right iv looked around done some math and im sure its dead on or as near as damb it ,,the gpu is based on AMD 4670 (I SO HOPE I GOT THAT RIGHT THE GPU NAME NOT THE INFO)....

EVERYTHING LEAKED AT VGLEAKS  COMBINED WITH IWATAS RESENT TALK TO US AND THE YEAR 2008 BEING YEAR 1 FOR WIIU DEVELOPMENT AND THE NINTENGEN GPU BEING KINDA TO NEW AND NOT MATCHING THE VGLEAKS API LEVEL SO RULING IT OUT.....

LOOKS LIKE AMD 4670 TO ME....


the base api level stated at vgleaks, the nm size stated by nintendo the nm size of 2008 gpus from amd and the nm size of gpus to day all point to it being a AMD 4670 base for the wiiu gpu then ad in the 75 watts peak wattage draw and the 8 rops (pixel pipes) its all screaming wiiu gpu started life as a amd 4670

the 4670 has 8 rops, 32 texture units, 320 stream processors  and a standard clock speed of 750 mhz basically its the 8 rops version of the 4870 everyone went crazy about a few months back with all the ign leaks etc

its in fact the same gpu but 8 not 16 rops its perfect for 1080p were as a 16 piper would be more 4k lol



ITS ALSO STRONGLY RUMORED THE GPU HAS CUSTOM UP GRADES TO LIGHTING AND POST PROCESSING EFFECTS

No, it's not the AMD 4670 because it's 55nm, not 45nm, it isn't fully GPGPU and combine it with the rest of the system (CPU, disc drive, RAM, etc.) it sucks a lot more power than 75 watts peak.

And please take into account that VGLeaks is far from being a reliable source.

It really wasn't, at no point did IBM say Power 7 in an official press release.

Unfortunately this is true, the only thing accomplished here is a further retreat behind nda. As now hes only posting what nintendo has on its wii u spec page, word for word.

Sounds like Nintendo got word of twitters loose lips.

That being said, if you read the official power 7 documentation I attached, they directly describe attributes soley unique to the recent advancements made with power 7.

If it was indeed the ppc 4xx family, they wouldnt be linking it with watson, they would be linking it with Blue gene, the blue gene sequoia being the current fastest super computer in the world.

Although, that being said, your response has nothing to do with the one of mine quoted, being this is a thread about the vgleaks leaked gpu, which the leaker, neogaf poster arkham, has claimed as being more or less worthless, and laughs at vgleaks for using it.

He's done a few calculations, and come up that the GPU is a 4670, Wii U devkits were initialised in 2008, around that time AMD was creating/releasing there 4xxx GPUs, from the amount of ROPS shaders and texture units it's more than enough for HD. What's key is the power consumption, which even I'm surprised about, the maximum it can run at is 75W and in real life scenarios around 45Ws which to me implies that the chip is a very low power chip, therefore the smaller chasis and the need of less cooling, since it needs less power, and voltage is what turns to heat.

If you look at the power consumption, it shows that the Wii U is either using a fairly old GPU that has had customised and porbably die shrunken to decrease power consumption or they're using a low-mid end recent gen GPU.

Put things into perspective, the original PS3 power consumption while playing games was 190-210 Watts, depending on game and what was happening on screen, the slim (not super slim) runs those same games at power consumption of around 72-79 watts.

So what this means about Wii U is that the GPU is a fairly old GPU that has been die shrunken to keep power consumption low. So I mean most of his calculations could be true, like the amount of ROPs shaders and textures, but power consumption is always the one thats subject to change.

I would make a lot more sense if the GPU was embedded. It means less power consumption and less heat generated of course.

Considering the case size, I'm betting it's an AMD E6760, not the old HD4670, since it is pretty big and doesn't fully support general purpose (GPGPU).

I'm certain that the 4xxx series does support AMD APP or what ever it was called when ATi released the 4 series. Hmm I wonder if there's a comparison between both, just to see what's slightly different.
