It means it won't be the Banjo brand but will be similar in gameplay. What does SPIRITUAL successor mean?

is a successor to a work of fiction which does not directly build upon the storyline established by a previous work as do most traditional prequels or sequels, but nevertheless features many of the same elements, themes, and styles as its source material. What does SPIRITUAL successor mean?

I was once known here as KillerMario, but since I really like Banjo-Kazooie, I changed my display name to show them my respect

I'm sure you came up with that definition yourself.
A spiritual successor, sometimes called a spiritual sequel or a companion piece, is a successor to a work of fiction which does not directly build upon the storyline established by a previous work as do most traditional prequels or sequels, but nevertheless features many of the same elements, themes, and styles as its source material.

Wait, if they wanted to make a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, why would they need the rights? The only thing that could make this better is if they revealed that they've bought the rights from Microsoft for Banjo Kazooie.

Rare lost me after they got bought by Microsoft. Sure, Banjo "Threeie" was planned, scrapped, replaced by Banjo X, development hell, banjo racing, whatever... NUTSANBOLTZ! Unless they really want to make a good game, I don't know.
But a kickstarter of all things? My god, they better not charge a ridiculous amount because they could get what they need from Microsoft or Nintendo. They have to suffer a loss in profits for languages and release crap, but they shouldn't just skip out and take advantage of the fans.
Microsoft isn't stupid and would take advantage of this situation, the same goes for nintendo; so I doubt the group has little support if they are making this public.
