First just thought I would add that of this morning all consoles and console bundles are sold out in the united states. TRU still had some bundles left yesterday but as of this morning are sold out.

Also I have a couple of general questions. None of this applies to me just curious of the answers.

1. on release, will nintendo limit units to increase demand like original wii, or will they disperse plenty of units to go around with little demand

2. IYO, what will wii u consoles be selling for on secondary market (ebay) very close to christmas like early december both the basic and deluxe

My personal guesses for peak selling prices (early/mid december) on ebay are about 500 for the basic console and about 1000 for the deluxe (higher or lower depends on demand after release)

3. any other related comments welcome

1. I think they want to supply enough so that everyone who wants one has one. I'd rather sell more consoles and have some sitting on a shelf, than have stores wiped out and consumers forget about the console after the holidays. (Examples, kids get the competitor products for xmas, loss of interest/hype, etc) Not sure if they can do it since they have had some manufacturing problems apparently.

2. I think they will sell for 200-300 over the price tops.

The reason they limit consoles on release is to create high demand later so that people buy them up as soon as they hit shelves. They create the idea that there is a short supply of consoles for a long period of time when really they have pallets of them sitting in their warehouses in china. Then they can slowly start releasing more and more and they keep selling out. This is why the original wii totally sold out for 3 consecutive holiday seasons. Not saying they are going to do this again but they end up making more money and selling more consoles if they do.

Yeah I know but there's a difference between selling out and selling more is all I'm saying. It can go either way.

Create a deman then supply, but i also heard that they are having a hard time cranking out all these game pads.
Ebay will be way over price. Hell the vita was selling for $100-$150 over and it wasnt even a sell out.

I think the wii u will be great.and it has good launch day games. Which most systems have not had.

o yea and i believe some people will be mad because it comes in 2 colors at launch and one is upgrade above the other.
Some people want a white deluxe or black basic. To me it doesnt matter.

Here in the uk/Ireland things are totally different. As of yet I have not heard of one retailer saying pre orders are sold out. Some have said they have exceeded expectations for pre orders. But they has been no retailers claiming a sell out of pre orders of any bundle (to my knowledge at this time). So ebay is probably not going to need to be an option this side of the atlantic.

I also think that as much money as nintendo made on the original wii they would have made more if they could have met demand initially.Nobody buys consoles here in January (at least not in the same numbers as before xmas). Some of the sales peeps at nintendo will have this situation evaluated over and over again. From this they will be sure to make sure there is a huge effort to meet all the xmas demand. Its common sense.

Every console manufacturer limits release numbers based on sales projections. They usually project lower However to put them in the spotlight and show great sales. Nintendo said they learned a lesson. I think there will be high demand like with the Wii, but they will restock retailers more frequently and with more stock.

It's been a trend since the ps2boxcube era to see consoles going up on eBay to capitalize on shortages. Won't be different now, we will see them from $150-300 over priced

Nintendo never created a shortage with a wii.

That is a nonsensical myth created by the idiot gaming media to explain the sucsess of the wii while denying giving it any credence.

Before the wii released, back in june, Nintendo released a statement saying they had enough wiis stock piled, and could produce enough per month to provide 4 million wiis shipped to retailers world wide by the year end of 2006, and would send the majority to NA.

They followed this to the letter. By year end of 2006, 4 million wiis had been shipped, recorded for all posterity by npd.

If Nintendo purposefully created a shortage, they would have only shipped a fraction of the consoles they produced.

They didnt fake a shortage, they had a shortage because they failed to accurately access the success of the console, and the only thing it did was leave money on the table.

God, if i find out who the idiot journalist was who butchered the concept of supply and demand to create this terd that just wont flush down the toilet....

You cant increase demand by decreasing supply. It doesnt work like that. Demand will remain the same regaurdless of supply, and will actually begin to DECREASE if no one can get the thing.

However, the ACTUAL rule of supply and demand dictates the PRICES people are willing to pay DO increase when demand exceeds supply.

This means if this was to be a tactic nintendo actually used to make a profit, they would have raised prices 2-300% to make up for the sales volume they were missing out on.

Did nintendo sell wiis for 500 bucks? Nope, scalpers did.

FALSE!!!

You can still reserve a console at Fred Meyer! It's a store in the Pacific North West.

Also how many consoles do you guys think Nintendo will sell in one year? (by next november 18th) I think 15 mil minimum, 20 max.

All I know is that Reggie said the Wii U supply chain is solid. I read that off the blog.

No they won't sell for that high a price. It will be much closer to regular retail. In my opinion your view regards Nintendo's distribution strategy is totally wrong and it didn't even apply to the Wii.

Well the deluxe is already selling for 200 over retail price on ebay ($550) so what do you think it will reach in early/mid december if you think 1,000 is to high of a guesstimate.
