A long, long time ago, I had an interesting idea for a fan fiction: one that would take a deep look into Bowser's past, and try to explain the reasons for his actions and behaviour. Why does he kidnap Princess Peach so persistently? Where are his children from? How exactly did his rivalry with Mario come about?

Sorrow of the Koopa King aims to answer all those questions, thanks in no small part to an extensive amount of research I've done into the mythology and timeline of the Mario games. Understandably, however, the Mario series is filled with so many plotholes that I had no choice but to fill in some of the gaps with my own opinions, so you may not agree with the way I explain certain events that have become canonical in the games.

This is a short story (by my standards), which means it'll probably be in the realm of 20,000 or so words when it's finished. I've only just begun writing it, so there's a lot more to come. I'll treat the first "chapter" of it as a way to gauge interest in it and see how much time I should dedicate to it from my busy schedule.

All criticism is very much welcome. Be ruthless if you have to.

I like the subject choice of the story, on an area that baffles most.

The way that that the Koopatrol's mode of address for Bowser changed with what he was saying was quite humorous and a brilliant technique. I'd like to read more too.

I like it! I don't read fanfics that much, but I would definitely read that once it's done. It's really interesting, too!
