"Nintendo of America has confirmed that those irritating twelve digit friend codes are now a thing of the past with Wii U. The company told Destuctoid that they’re being replaced with a much more user-friendly Account ID system. We already know that this will be known as your Nintendo Network ID, but it’s good to get some official clarification all the same.
“Our plan is replace Friend Codes with a much more user-friendly Account ID system, which employs user-created account names.”

This is awesome! I really hate using friend codes and I am glad they went with an account ID instead.

Dunno why it bugs you so much.

To be honest, this is good news, but I rarely ever made friends with anyone on the Wii or DS, so friend codes never bugged me to begin with.

Still, it's nice to know there's an easier way to be friends with people on the Wii U.

I never had friends online. But I will now this will be easier to use and there are more Hardcore players for the WiiU.

Just imagine when Smash 4 is released. People talking smack and then challenging them. Oh man, the intensity of battle! I cannot wait for that scene!

Finally it's time to throwa party to celebrate the death of friend codes! Also can't wait to get the wiiu basically we have first dibs on names for getting it on day one.
