The Wii only goes up to 480p, or do you live in Europe and mean 576i, cause there is a big difference between 576p and 576i.Yes, you can use either component or composite wii video cables with the wii u.

I will not die until I achieve something. Even though the ordeal is high, I never give in. Therefore, I die with no regrets~Ikaruga Prologue

Nah, I'll check later on today. The Wii only goes up to 480p, or do you live in Europe and mean 576i, cause there is a big difference between 576p and 576i.
It's enhanced definition in PAL. p. sure is p. Not that it matters. the point is the cable will work and would give hd or sd as required, unless the wii u os limits it for some reason.

Can you use HDMI & component at the same time? eg HDMI for picture & the red/white part of component for sound through an amp?
For a separate speaker yes, but not if you're just having the sound through component and HDMI for picture, as you have to have your TV input set to 1. You can't set it to 2 inputs at the same time on your TV, but on the system you can.

I have sold my Wii U, so if I deleted you from NN before I sold it, or haven't accepted your friend request since, this is why.

Maybe you should upgrade your tv.

Some people are underage and can't get a new TV because their parents pay for it.
My TV lasted me years though, little 15" CRT xD, because systems were still in SD up until I was like 16/17, and was able to by my own TV and HD game consoles by then, so they came out at the right time really for me personally.

When i was 10 i have a small 13" tv with a ps1. Then got a 21inch for my 15 or 16 bday. Then when i turn 18 i got myself a 42inch.
But hay he could always ask for an upgrade since tvs are becoming cheaper and cheaper

They're not that cheap. People work just to pay bills now. It's not like people work and have money left over each month...

Was hoping it would be like the PS3 where you can have picture through HDMi & audio through a separate connection Thanks for the info though!

Yes that what it is that I've just described. If you've got your input set to HDMI 1 for example, and your sound into component, yet you still want the sound to come through your TV, it's not going to work, because you can't have 2 inputs on your TV at the same time. I repeat, your TV!
For the actual console, you can have the picture coming through HDMI for example, and the sound coming out of audio components, into a set of separate speakers.
You do it in the settings of your console, not the TV.
