I would like to get my Son-In-Law a WiiU for Christmas.
Will one of you kind 'Experts' please let me know everything I should get so that he will be able to use it over Christmas. I am based in the UK.
Please will you help an old 'fuddy-duddy'.
Thanks in anticipation,

It depends on the game/games purchased with the Wii U, some of them will use the Wii mote's some don't. if you want to buy Wii motes i would suggest http://www.amazon.co...52985539&sr=8-6 as they are cheaper than game, but my advice would to be shop around for them as they are already available.

The gamepad, This is the major controller, the one with the screen, it comes with the system, and houses a rechargable battery.
The 'pro' Controller, this is a traditional controller like found on other competing systems, or systems from the past. Houses a rechargable battery.
Wii remote and nunchuck (sold seperately from each othee). These are having their boxes rebranded with the wii u logo, but the products are identical in both wii and wii u packaged boxes, and will work with both systems. These are required for playing old wii games on the wii u, and wii u games designed for motion control. These require AA batteries. I use rechargables and have saved hundreds of dollars in batteries. Games suppirting these controls will require a sensor bar, the wii u uses the same sensor bar as the wii, this comes with the wii u system.
Each game has icons on the back describing which controllers are supported. Game pads and wii remotes will likely be the major controllers used.
There will be two different options available at launch, basic and deluxe, easily recognizable by the color of the system, Basic white, deluxe black.
Basic is 299 dollars, contains the system with 8Gb storage, the gamepad controller, ac adapter for system and controller, sensor bar, hdmi cable for hdtv's, if he does not have an hdtv to play on, the composite (red white and yellow ends) cables from the original wii will work.
Basic does not come with a game to play.
Deluxe has everything basic has, with the following on top of it.
32Gb storage
Nintendoland videogame (it is worth noting, to play with more than one person in nintendo land, purchases of wii remotes and nunchucks will be necessary), Gamepad charging cradle (a convenience, not a necessity to charge the pad) a gamepad stand, a system stand.
Wii u's deluxe digital promotion.
With this promotion you earn 10% of what you spend on digital downloads back as usable credit for purchases. Ie if you buy a $50 wii u game as a download instead of a disc bought at retail, you get five dollars put back into your account.
Its... A bit of an investment to be sure. Particularly if you dont already have wii remotes from previously owning a wii, as they seem like a necessity for playing with multiple players. And its 20 dollars a remote.
I feel wii was far more accessible to new customers at its launch. I certainly wouldnt have needed to write such an essay explaining the wii at launch.
Though the wii u offers a lot more than the wii.

one controller comes with each console.
you can choose from different packs.
The basic set is white and doesn't contain any games.
The deluxe premium set is black and comes with a game called Nintendoland and some other slight upgrades, like the memory.
There is also a Zombi U pack which comes with the Zombi U game instead of Nintendoland. This pack also features a additional controller called the pro controller aswell which is a cool bonus.
Games
you can choose Wii U games, Or Wii games.
Wii U games look better than Wii games, and are built for use with the Gamepad which comes with the console. Overall they are allot better.
Wii games are from the wii console, therefore, you need to buy and use additional wiimotes and nun-chuks.
Controllers
this is the confusing bit. some Wii U games require Wiimotes to play them and most of the Wii U games are compatable with them. For example, Nintendoland Requires WiiMotes and nunchucks on some of its mini-games. you can tell if the game will use them by looking on the back of the box.
In this case, it would be a good idea to buy some Wii-motes and nun-chucks aswell just in case scince alot of games use them. unless your son-in-law already has a wii and some wii-motes.
if your son-in-law doesn't have a Wii. I would recommend getting a deluxe set. and then getting some wii-motes and nun-chucks.
how much are you willing to spend by the way?
also, the Wii U is sold out at allot of places so you may need to shop around a bit.
if you have any more questions just ask.

Hi Jim.
The cost in the UK will be £300 + Deluxe package which is the cheapest still available will set you back £309 & comes with 1 game Nintendoland, if you needed Wii motes then that figure would be around £30+ for each Wii mote.
