I'm pretty new here (well by my posts anyway!)
Just seen this on the Nintendo website, I didn't see it last time I checked any way, so thought I'd share!

The site also has a mobile version.

It's the official Nintendo site and has been around a long time. I'm surprised you've never heard of it or visited it.

wow, wii U chat doesn't use the gamepad's inbuilt mic? What is it used for then?
Of course it does!

Then why on every single video showing the Wii U Chat, is it silent?Of course it does!
and why does it say here: http://www.nintendo....software/#/chat
that you 'communicate through handwriting"
and it doesn't mention anything to do with the mic.

I'm sure it does use the built in mic - the drawing tool is just for extra interaction between you and your friend.
Although it doesn't mention it's a given that it will use the built in mic

Because it's obvious that it uses the GamePad's mic.
If it didn't, they would've made a separate mic attachement and under the Wii U chat section, it would say "Wii U Mic needed. Sold seperately".

nope, it's not obvious. I think it's obvious that for the 100th time in a row, Nintendo's gonna stinge us up.Because it's obvious that it uses the GamePad's mic.

With all the preview videos of it and even the Nintendo Direct with Reggie on the line they didn't have any extra mics or anything and on the website it does say "all you need is your broadband Internet connection."
which to me means you don't need anthing extra than what's in the box to use it....

We've already been told we cannot use it for in-game voice chat as well.

..as for in game multiplayer, I doubt it. Don't think the wiiU even supports that at all...

How else is Video Chat going to work?!

It does use the gamepad mic. I've seen a video ofsome guy using Skype. He sets the gamepad below the TV to use as the camera and talks from the couch with no other accessory. Just uses the gamepad mic for chat. If it wasn't Skype..it's something similar anyway

Yeah, I'm jusing lowering my expectations so when I get a Wii U, I'm as pleased as possible.
I think we can all say that we expected WAY too much for the Wii, that it just didn't achieve.
We've been told that the Wii U in-built Mic doesn't support In-game chat, but the wii u is capable of talking online in-game. Although, you have to buy a seperate mic, for example:

Yeah, I just like confirmation. Being sneaky is Nintendo's favourite role.Ok, I understand you lowering your expectations. But really, the reason why Nintendo put a mic on the gamepad was mainly for the video chat functionality. They don't have to confirm the mic is used for video chat!

Like Take a call during gameplay is a feature.
You don't have to do either, but it's a featureset they're offering.
Besides, did you think reggie and iwata were talking on the phone while on wii u chat last week?
