Turn off the setting that auto-turns off your console if it's been inactive for 90 minutes I think it is.

Just stole this tip from HoltnEER.

If anyone could comment on how to turn this setting off to help others, it would be appreciated.

I have sold my Wii U, so if I deleted you from NN before I sold it, or haven't accepted your friend request since, this is why.

Yes, it does, halfway through updating, and then you can't turn your console back on because it broke from turning off halfway through the update.

Turn this option off.

I thought it turned of automatically when you are updating?

During Game updates it does, but not during system updates.
It was probably added in the Day 1 update to disable the feature while updating because of potential bricking.

Damn, that's a bad fault.
I guess Nintendo have probably tried their hardest to maintain such a console.

Nintendo really messed up. How the hell did they miss this?

It should not be automatically turned off as it's technically not inactive, it's applying an update

Well, I really hope that this doesn't take more than 90 minutes! I just started downloading the update 5 minutes ago before I even saw this thread!! On the plus side, I have the U plugged into via ethernet/USB adapter so the download speed should be quicker than using wifi.

Can anyone tell us what options you need to do to turn this setting off, so others know what to look for?

It's in the system options, I strongly recommend you change it to off.

I turned my system on and was downloading the updates. Not sure if I turned the automatic shutoff off. I know the cable went off in the room. I know I went to turn the Wii U back on and only the Wii U pad was working. Turnoff that automatic shutoff.

Huh, I knew about the automatic turn off so I kept my system on the entire time I was updating.

I didn't know that the console turning off while updating meant a huge problem though.

Either way, auto turn off is not in use, so I won't have to worry about it anymore. Now I just have to make sure not to update when there's a storm outside.
