Hi, can someone comment whether an external USB HDD is faster than the internal 8/32GB Flash memory in terms of performance and loading times? Thanks.

One can only guess. And my opinion is "they're probably about the same".

there is dozen of forums speak about "how cheap the internal flash is"... so I assume that the external hdd is a better quality and faster. I would recommend you the "scorpio" series by Western digital hdds 500gb (internal with external case)..

But, DTOID said, that wii U have lots of restrictions for the external hdd, and some are not compatible... SEARCH BEFORE YOU BUY. I would recommend you to give it some time and get some good reliable info after, for "what to buy", till then, pause your excitement of "shoping therapy"..

Oh wow, really? I hope that those 5 that didn't work are really obscure brands.

I made some research and there is allready a topic on NEOGAF about it... Western digital is supported...

so my suggestion to u all is...

http://www.amazon.co...18&sr=8-1-spell
http://www.amazon.co...18&sr=8-2-spell
http://www.amazon.co...18&sr=8-3-spell

Dont look at the price, as its english amazon, if u live in US is cheaper... They are really fast as hell and really good quality.

Now if u want BETTER quality western digitals... I personally use http://www.amazon.co...53422182&sr=8-1

They are green, that means a bit slower, but faster than the usb port, because they are sata 3, so u dont need more than that... They are beasts... huge waranty, huge capacity and they last much longer than the black or blue, because they are ECO... Just to be certain that I suggest u the ones I USE... the model name is : WD20EARX also they are totaly silent and low temps, they give you about 90-100mb per second. (sometimes faster or some times a bit slower, depends the hdd I am transfering from, but the average transfer rate is 90-100mb per second)

Uhh. Those are internal hard drives, not external.

yes bu u can buy an external cage.. case... I gave u quality, if you want quality, always pick internals and then the case... The external hdds by defult, are not always the best quality u can get. I wont suggest you cases, because that depends the money u have. You can visit your fav stores and check the prices! or google it!

external hdd by default :

fast to install, just plug and play
no always fast
a bit noise
if they brake you through it in the bin.

internal hdd + external case
You choose what you get...
better quality, stability or faster, low or high temps, noise or silent.. its up to you!!!
if the hdd fails, you turn the hdd in as they have bigger warranty and you get a new one.. you keep the case!!!
You have to install the hdd inside the cage with a few screws

The only problem is that some external drives act as usb hosts and other are usb drives and others as usb xyz's.

Some are supported, others might not be.
