I think, i have to use many years a usb modem to be certain... that you lose lots of internet speed, if you use it via a usb port... Ethernet port is the best though

I'm referring to the USB->Ethernet adapter. Not plugging a USB modem directly into the Wii U. This is the one I'm using that I've had since my Wii days a couple years ago.

Has anybody tried internetspeedtest.com on the Wii U? I'm not sure if this site uses flash or not though.

Just did a test on speedof.me (speedtest.net doesn't support html5). I got 1.38 Mb/s for download. It got stuck on upload. www.bandwidthplace.com I got 3.1Mbps on D/l and again upload got stuck.

I'm using Wifi. All mobile speedtests give me below 3Mbits when my connection is 30Mbits. On a laptop, I can get my 30Mbps on my Wifi but I did download the 1.73GB NSMU in about 30-35 minutes. So I suppose I get something like a 700-800 KB/s on a max of 3.8MB/s (actual tested download speed I get).

So, it's pretty speedy, imo. The first update must been something like 4 GB because it took like 2 times the time NSMBU took...

I don't have my Wii U yet as I live in the UK but when I do I'll be using Wi-Fi. I didn't do a lot of downloading on my Wii and it will likely be the same on my Wii U so an Ethernet connection isn't really neccessary for me. It's far more important for me on my PS3 and Xbox 360. Plus all four Ethernet connections on my router are already in use for my PS3, Xbox 360, Mac Mini and surround sound amp.

My WiFi connection in my bedroom is crud (most low end laptops would have a hard time), but the speed on the browser was quite surprising. It matched that of my laptop, so no need for Ethernet. I've only tried Video Chat so far, when I try online, I guess I'll update.. (I'll probably forget).
