Are these essentially the same game? I have both and just started playing NSMBU and it seems to be all the same levels from the original. Is NSMBU just the same game with some additional levels/features? Is there any reason to keep both?

No it's a brand new game with brand new powerups and levels. I'm also assuming it's better than nsmbwii

Not new, they could have just used the cape instead or something...

Well the game does seem to have way more replay value with those challenge modes and there is plenty new here like Nabbit, the squirrel cape, I would assume more levels cause that map is freaking huge and boost mode. So I would say it's different, plus it's in HD so that's great! :P

It's very similar at first, but you'll soon realize NSMBU is so much better then any other 2D Mario out there. Simply fantastic.

I already got it. My question was really is there any reason for me to keep my old copy of New Super Mario Bros around for the Wii, or is NSMBU better in every area so much that I should just sell the old version because it is not worth playing?

From what I can tell, Wii U's version is a heck of a lot prettier, thanks to the beautiful full HD renderings. That feature alone makes it worth the price of admission. I am not even a graphics nut but when I saw it in person, I knew I wanted a copy. Plus, it is loaded with new levels and challenges for added replayability.

If I had both copies, I would fire up eBay or Craigslist to get a few bucks for the Wii version - that or give it to one of my nephews for Christmas. Ho-ho-ho.

Am I the only one who hated NSMBWii? Like... I hated that game...

NSMBU is a lot more palatable.

Why?
It was the best 2D mario game since they stopped making them.

Completely different games.
Unlike a shooter, platformers are all about the levels.

Not sure what exactly you were implying with that statement. That aside, it's an opinion with no technical merit, I'll admit. I was bored and frustrated (not with difficulty) with the game. Playing with others only doubled the feeling. The game aggravated me immensely while playing.

is means levels are the important thing in platformers.
Whereas modern shooters, the story is what should be the important thing, but seems more to be about multiplayer.

y?
