so I just bought and set up my new system today, and after the initial update the gamepad now has an entire row of dead pixels, about a third of the way up the screen. Has anybody else encountered problem similar to this and are there any known fixes?

nintendo advertised the gamepad sooo much.. that will end up a nightmare... So many faulty gamepads..

This happened after the update? Call nintendo and see what they tell u.

But if they tell you to turn it in for repair.. DO NOT turn it in to nintendo... just return it back to the store and get a new one.

in digital cameras, some times sensors produce dead pixels after a firmware update!.. and the key to restore and fix.. is to re-update.. lol sounds funy, I dont know exactly whats goin on with the gamepad.. He said "after the update"

Dead pixels like that should be more than covered by Nintendos 1 year warranty, You can try taking it back tot he retailer to do a 1 for 1 exchange (some place have a 30 day or whatever policy), which would be faster than waiting on however many days it takes to send it out to nintendo and get it back, hving a useless wii u in the meantime. though technically they dont have to do anything since its covered by Nintendo.

Regaurdless, get it replaced. I just hope you can convince the retailer to handle it on their end. That would be much faster.

Gamestop actually said i can just swap Gamepads so I don't have to update again. It was really cool of them.

I'm glad that you were able to get a swap at Gamestop instead of being without a Wii U for a little while. I hope the new one works out for you.

Looks good so far, I'll put it to the test after work. Thanks for the suggestion to talk to the retailer, i was just going to call nintendo.

It depends. In some cases, it's the fault of the software. Some, the hardware. If Software is the issue, then yes. If hardware is the issue, it's better to just ask for a replacement from the store/Nintendo under warranty.
