In an interview with Forbes, Reggie Fils-aime has mentioned that “the Wii U will have an extremely robust online experience.” What that means remains to be seen, and Reggie believes that “it’s much more compelling for that information to come from the publishers than to come from us,” so I wouldn’t expect any direct details for a while.
What is a little worrying though is Reggie re-iterates the idea that this platform will be flexible, which allow publishers to integrate their own platforms with what Nintendo has on the Wii U. That sounds fine on the surface, I guess, but the reason Xbox Live is such a polished experience is because it’s controlled and there are constraints developers have to work within. Too much freedom can be a bad thing.
Still, I’ll give Nintendo the benefit of the doubt for the time being.
