Stuff I Found Out: 2 Gamepads

I originally wanted to have 2 Wii U's, one in our family room for the family to play and one in our loft for the kids to play when we have people over or the wife and I want to watch a movie. The issue with this is because the Wii U is locked down where your ID and saves are locked to the console, any progress we made on one console was lost when playing on the other, hopefully Nintendo will wake up like microsoft did and allow cloud saves and your cloud ID so you can have multiple consoles.
Frustrating to say the least but since i bought the two consoles launch day and am still debating keeping both I decided I would see how/if two gamepads could be connected to the Wii U even if it wouldn't work when in games. What I have found is when you attempt to sync the second gamepad to the console it syncs fine, but it also unsync's the gamepad that was originally connected. So the console will not allow you to have two gamepads connected at one time, it isn't simply a game restriction.
So unless a future software update adds that functionality (which it seems like nintendo is saying it will not, at least in the U.S.) there is no point in having two gamepads.

There is one game that uses the cloud though, monster hunter.

Nintendo already said. That when games come out that will support them. They will sell the gamepad by itself. And my guess is there will be a software update right before that.
Also they saod cloud saves will be coming. Just didnt give an eta.
Also the mulit id system thing. May be harder then you think.
You have 12 user on 1 system whish can play all the games from 1 wii u. So that kinda throws this 2 wii u stuff into a wack.

The wii u was originally designed to support one pad.
When the last kits were spec bumped, the wii u was specd for two.
But it wasn't in the firmware yet and won't be until Nintendo has everything polished up.
Given the nature of a day one update and subsequent feature adds/enablements, it makes sense that they are waiting to enable dual gamepad support.
As it is, they are still optimizing the bloatware that resides on the system. They've got a lot of work to do there. As I've mentioned before, Nintendo is moving faster than they are used to so there are bound to be some hiccups with features. But I think they've got the infrastructure in place now to deliver timely, polished features. But they won't offer it until its both ready and optimized.
You don't get a second chance at a first impression.

It does make perfect sense that it wont work at all yet though, as they barely got the essentials functioning.
Just imagine if it HAD worked. No doubt the news would spread all over the Internet and you would end up with people moaning about how the Wii U sucks because no game supports the feature yet.

Well I am a bit disappointed and somewhat perplexed but nonetheless I figured I would share what I have found out through research and then trial and error about having Two gamepads.

Yes, this makes sense. Currently they don't sell gamepads and.no game allows you to use two pads. A future update will fix this if any game ever uses two.

I think some of you are under the impression I assumed this would work. I did not make that assumption I simply wanted to test and see if you could even have two paired to the system. Obviously there are no games that support them but it was an interesting test. And with more and more gamepads showing up on eBay (and people buying them) I figured I would spread the word on what happens when you try to pair 2.
ever tried to pair more then 4 wiimotes?
Same thing. And thats what nintendo didnt want.
They didnt want to sell the gamepad by itself. Because it would confuse people and they would think they could use 2.
Stores would be mad because there would be a ton of returns of people saying it didnt work.

I would like a second gamepad though as a backup for when the battery light comes on..just swap pads and carry on playing. However I'm not going to spend £180 on a controller ..that's how much I heard they're going to cost anyway.

What exactly is hard about allowing local accounts to access data from the same HDD, SSD, and or SD Card when the consoles games purchases are console locked in the first place.... PS3 & the 360 do the same exact thing with other accounts on a local device and yet they still have means of transfer or reactivation. I am not saying programing can be a cake walk, by all means the ways you can mess up your own work is astounding. Though, when a company that designs software really was to says it is, "To hard" then they really need to fire the current staff to acquire competent coders that take their jobs seriously. It would kind of be like going to a bank with tellers that said, "Oh its to hard to learn how to do this job" to not know how to put your cash into your account. That person would be fired in due time and you would be demanding someone else. Not to mention some of these (if not all these days) people whom work in a big software related company have degrees for this job. Why pay someone that can't even do the job their suppose to be able to do. (Specially when it includes multiple people all brainstorming to get solutions). Also the mulit id system thing. May be harder then you think.

I can understand a controller not working and why it is not on market. Though to expand on what your saying, Nintendo is quiet good at not explaining a lot of things about their consoles. At launches to way late into the later dates of post launch you do not even get a full online manual or even extended information on the bloody things. Someone is just as easily able to go out and get confused on how many Wii-motes/nun-chucks/classical controllers, and/or pro controllers they needed for the consoles as they would the gamepads. In the long run all they had to do is just like the Wii and place a controller with a number on the back of the game cases or the images on the games store page. Which they have on the cases at least now.ever tried to pair more then 4 wiimotes?
