This isn't a post where I talk about the whole console being the GamePad, 'cause that's stupid. I just thought of a really good idea Nintendo should think about including in an update. The idea is, you could download classics or small Wii U games made for Wii U To Go from the eShop. Then, you could play them on the Wii U, or you could transfer them to the GamePad (Like playing DS demos from Nintendo Channel on Wii). Then, you could play the game without the console in range. Do you think that would be a good idea? I do.

Do we know what the current range is for the gamepad? Is there a range?

Either way, they make handhelds for a reason, so you can take them with you, haha.

It's NOT a handheld... and your idea sounds too confusing.

I know its not a handheld. It'd just be a feature.

There's a ranger for the GamePad. I've been out of range with the console before.

I don't see that ever happening. Not sure If it's possible, you can't turn the gamepad on without the system on right now. It'd be cool though. The range is weak now, I wish I could play in my kitchen, which is downstairs.

I guess it just depends on the thickness of the walls because my gamepad works in my living room which is separated by a single wall.

30 feet is about the range.

The upad has some hardware, it could potentially have "take out" games.
Nintendo might be stupid enough to cannibalise the 3ds, I dunno.
It depends on if people want it, if they do then it'll never happen.

so you wanna download to the gamepad?
I dont believe there is enough space or memory for that. The gamepad is mainly steaming. So kinda hard to see that happening without the main system being within range.

It's not going to happen or even possible as the Gamepad has no internal storage space for games. The range is also limited.

By the way this is the wrong section and it should have been posted in the Wii U hardware section.

Dundunduuuunnn, the plot thickens.
It's easy to add-on what you need if you have a port designed for such a purpose.

Don't get me wrong, I doubt it'll be used for anything like this, but they have something in mind, probably the vitality sensor.

I very much doubt its possible to add external storage through that connector from a technical stand point.

It would work like DS download service. You don't download anything to the GamePad, the Wii U just sends it to it.

Sorry about this post being in the wrong section. :/

Like I said to Nollog, it'd work like DS Download Service. You don't SAVE anything, the console just SENDS it to the GamePad, and when you turn the GamePad off, the game would be gone and you'll re-download it to the GamePad.

What you're talking about is streaming and not downloading as without internal storage there is no way to download. The Gamepad already does this. It's nothing new. I doubt that Nintendo will enable VC games to be played this way though. The range of the Gamepad is not that great for it to be an extensively used feature. At the end of the day what you're saying regards downloading the games is not technically viable and therefore is never going to happen.
