I was thinking about Zelda, and I thought about this. What if, in the next console game, Link wasn't exactly Link? More of a random guy than a princess saver. Imagine going through dungeons, getting your items, but not being able to use them? I mean, it's not like instructions are printed in the back. A one hour dungeon turned three because of this. A difference in story could also be used. Of course he'd eventually become the princess or goddess saver, but it'd feel more like a journey. You may be the chosen hero, but you're still quickly thrust into the responsibility. You might not even be using the Master Sword until the second half of the game, taught by a secondary character. I think having a Link that's not Link would be great, and would allow for more changes, some said above. What do you think?

Some people always have a cellphone on them. I'm so awesome I always have a 3DS.

um... did you play twilight princess? cuz many of those elements are in that game. I won't say much for spoilers's sake, but he does start as a random guy who doesn't even live in the main part of hyrule, and some items aren't always able to be used to their fullest ( dominion rod off the top of my head)

I thought this was the main plot of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

Don't forget about Ocarina of time ...link was born in a village totally on the opposite side of the Castle and had no idea he'd get involved in this destiny to save the princess

In almost every Zelda game he starts off as a random guy living a normal life until he gets thrusts into the action.

Imagine going through dungeons, getting your items, but not being able to use them
Why shouldn't you be able to use items after you get them? You usually have a companion who tells you how to use the item anyway, and limiting the user right away wouldn't be fun.

You might not even get the Master Sword until the second half of the game
I can't think of a Zelda game where you start off with the Master Sword. The earliest time I think you get it was in LInk to the Past, and that was already after clearing a few dungeons.

^This

I'd see a Zelda funny spin-off in which a random guy accomplishes Link's quest at random and saves the Princess at random before Link, then Link is upset and the gods are laughing at him.
