“This is not the first time he has restarted development on the game,” says Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, “Pikmin 3 was originally going to be released on the GameCube until Miyamoto-san cancelled development and started over on the Wii.”
“There was also a period for about eight months where he decided Pikmin 3 was best suited as a handheld title and worked on a version for the 3DS. He was also unhappy with that and moved on from that onto the Wii U,” he continues.
Miyamoto spoke of the delay as a necessary action and said, “Pikmin 3 will be ready when its ready. I must let people know that 2014 is only an estimate and could be delayed further if necessary.”
“Many people have been waiting patiently for Pikmin 3 and I applaud them on their effort. It is like saving yourself until marriage like I did. I waited 25 years and was rewarded quite well,” he laughs, “So I know your pain.”
Iwata assures gamers that they will have a lot to look forward to in 2013 for the Wii U despite the delay of Pikmin 3. He lists many upcoming Wii U titles including The Croods: Prehistoric Party and Funky Barn despite Funky Barn already being released.
