Cd Projekt Red with The Witcher series disagrees with you and has had great success doing so (along with providing DRM free games).

Since when does cdp give away their newest game?

You may not think that but not everyone thinks the same way. My point was if they were to give it away for free not only would it help the sales of the NSMB U game but it would also help towards incentivising the purchase of the Wii U. In other words it make Nintendo look a lot better in the eyes of gamers yet to invest in the system. It would also go some way to appease those who already own the system and game.

I don't mind if you think the same way.
Your opinion isn't my opinion.

I dunno if it'd get people to buy nsmbu.
I think the people who would buy nsmbu for this dlc are either luigi fans or already own the game and have completed it.
It is an "evergreen" though, maybe you're right.

We don't know if it is a stand alone, it seems to be dlc (btw I never said they gave away there latest game). CD Projekt Red add huge amounts of content, from new items, new animations, new characters, new areas, to entirely new game modes and cinematics. I doubt this game/expansion will contain as much content as CD Projekt Red added to either of the Witcher games, all for free. My main point is I think it is entirely up to Nintendo whether they charge for it or not, but there are positives to not charging which many seem to ignore.

Note: I don't expect it to be free and given my dissapointment with NSMBU I doubt I will get it.

So this is DLC or a standalone title?

Nevermind...Doesn't seem to be known yet.

This statement is false. The previous statement is true.

RIP in peace Nintendo.

My guess is a standalone expansion.

Oh, I get ya.

My guess is a standalone expansion.

that'd be a good model, but I doubt they'd bother.
Probably just dlc inside the story mode when you select luigi or something.
base game required means they get the 45 euro from that, but potentially lose some dlc sales to people not interested in the original.

In a recent Nintendo Direct, Iwata stated it was coming out this Summer.

I'll reserve my judgement for when there is concrete news about exactly what form this DLC will take and how much its going to cost. If Nintendo were smart they would release it for free.

No DLC of that size would be free. 80+ courses woud be atleast £15 maybe more.

An add-on pack for New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U features more than 80 new levels made only for Luigi. Gamers can enjoy alternate versions of all the original stages in the game, and can freely change between the New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U stages.

Across 82 stages of adventure, Mario's brother Luigi faces all-new challenges that provide gamers with a whole new level of gameplay challenge. Luigi can jump higher than Mario, yet has trouble stopping after a dash. Many stages start with only 100 seconds on the timer, and quicker stages are populated with many obstacles. It's the Year of Luigi, and he has got his work cut out for him!

And thus, Nintendo started creating worthy DLC...

I say it won't be free, but I admit I don't know. Nintendo has been reluctant from the beginning towards paid DLC. Maybe will we be lucky and get it for free? I personally wouldn't mind paying for that expansion pack.
