Gamepad - initial charge and setup

Greetings, :)
I managed to pick up my Wii U first thing Friday morning but only now have gotten the time to set it up.
Anyway my gamepad is still charging after more than the recommended 2 and a half hours it states in the manual. I'm already getting impatient and due to my awful internet connection, I can see the update on top on this taking hours.

My question is:
Can I begin the Wii U Console setup while my gamepad charges?

Hi there Wii U Community,



Just thought I'd stop in & say hello. :) Sadly the Wii U doesn't launch here until the November 30th so I'm just counting down the days. I own alot of Nintendo consoles and handhelds so I'm really excited to get my hands on the Wii U for some more Mario Adventures. :o I have preordered a few titles: ZombiU, Nintendoland & Black Ops 2. I think that's about it, thanks!
