I think Wii U did the impossible!

06 January 2014 - 05:10 PM

I just finished looking through the Famitsu sales numbers and Nintendo's sales are phenomenal!!! The Wii U in particular did something I didn't expect!!! If the Wii U goes on to sell 500K units in the Americas (all things seem to point to it) we could see a 1 mil worldwide sale for the Wii U this December.  That's launch like numbers people!!!  So do you think the Wii u is back or do you want to see the Jan2014 sales first before making that assumption?  The upcoming fiscal report for Nintendo is going to be very interesting indeed. I think Nintendo Wii U will end up underperfoming and will sell at least 7 mil Wii U's by the end of March 2014.  Still it bodes well for the Wii U as I expect Nintendo Wii U to sell another 7.5-9 mil units for the upcoming year based on the strength of their upcoming games!!!  MarioKart 8 alone should help pull a million units worldwider for the platform.

Wii U is on a roll!

23 December 2013 - 03:07 PM

It seems like the Wii U found it's second wind this holiday. Almost all stores from Target to BestBuy to Walmarts seem to be selling Wii U's to an almost feverish pace!!! It's not uncommon to see someone in line carrying a Wii U to the check stand recently.  So my question is the Wii U back from the dead?  Sales for the last 3 months suggest an upward positve trend so hopefully it will carry to the New Year. I for one don't think this is just due to the holiday but because Nintendo is finally beginning to convey the Wii U is a true successor to the Wii.  They have also began touting it's strength which are Nintendo HD games, Media Capabilities, Backward Capablities (wish they expand on this more), and new ways to play games not available to other consoles.  So what do you think is the Wii U back or are these last few months just a glitch?  What can they do in order to keep momentum going positve.  Please share your thoughts on this matter.

How much do you think the Wii U will sell the whole month of Dec.

19 December 2013 - 09:53 PM

I have noticed an uptrend in sales for the Wii U this December.  I dare say it is much more in demand than what it was even during Black Friday week.  My local target here in Hayward CA is sold out and the Toys R Us have had very good demand (selling out of Wii U Skylander's bundle) for the system as well.  How much units will the Wii U do according to NPD and how much to you expect the Wii U to sell worldwide?  My prediction is that it will sell around ~400K units according to NPD (maybe even 500K if demand is sustainable) and end up with 800K-900K units worldwide.   Japan having sold 250K for the month and EU selling 150K-200K.  I know it sounds tooo optimistic but I see the Wii U ending with a userbase of 5.1M-5.3M by the first week of Jan2014.(seeing November Wii U selling 4.3M-4.5M LTD WW)

How to market Bayo 2 into a success.

17 July 2013 - 11:10 AM

Let's not kid here Bayonetta is a niche franchise. Which in turn surprised me when there was such a backlash for the exclusive announcement for the Wii U.  The franchise had an extremely low attachment rate from last gen consoles that one would think that PS360 fans really didn't care about the franchise.  Well hopefully it will find it's fanbase on the Wii U, just as long as Nintendo markets the game upon release.

First thing Nintendo could do is to provide an incentive for potential Bayo fans to pick up the game. They could do this by bundling a cleaned up (glitches fixed) version of Bayo1 as an eShop download for the first printing of the game(first 60-100K)!  This would provide an extra value preposition for people to pick up the game at launch costing Platinum or Nintendo next to nothing. This also could provide additional revenue for Nintendo/Platinum if they sold the game for $15-$20 on the eShop to those who are not willing to pick-up Bayo 2 at launch.

Second, Nintendo must increase awareness for the title. Nintendo, could provide downloadable demo's on eShop and make the game playable on retail kiosks.  They could also provide some print ads next to said kiosks to show them there is a new demo available for this EXCLUSIVE GAME!!!   Nintendo's marketing team also should utilize social networks like FB, twitter, Mii-Verse etc to reach out to more gamers that may be interested in this franchise.  Finally they should do a Nintendo direct which provides adequate time for gamers to get excited over the game.

In all, the game has potential to be a successful core franchise on the Wii U as long as Nintendo provides decent marketing for the game.  They could do this by bundling the game with the original Bayo to provide extra-value to potential buyers on the fence of picking the game up on launch.  Nintendo needs to use ND, Mii-verse, demo's, and social networks which provide low cost marketing yet provides a diverse reach to many potential consumers.  Maybe one should bring this to the attention of Kamiya via twitter and see if Nintendo responds like they should?
