If Yoshi is coming late, i wouldn't be surprised if XCX is coming out in June in the US.

A Nintendo of Europe employee just told that something is going to happen at the beginning and at the end!

Loved the show. Really laughed at some parts.

Mario Maker is looking more appealing with SMB 3 World aesthetics. Those levels were pretty awesome! :)

Zelda was...wow. The game looks really good and i feel it's going to be really special! Mark my words! B)

Finally...

I love Zelda 1 so i obviously love that comparison.

Actually the game is starting to give a Zelda 1 vibe with all the exploration already shown.

Really can't wait to see more of it.

#306933 Nintendo Direct 1/14/15

Posted by DéliopT on 14 January 2015 - 11:37 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I watched the European ND. It ended up beeing the shortest one with only 40 minutes of footage.

It was a really good show for 3DS.
That new Fire Emblem came out of nowhere and launching 2 NEW 3DS bundles willl really help push the console.
From what i have read, some announced games already taking advantage of NEW 3DS, which is pretty cool.

Despite being in it's 4th (almost) full year in the market, there's still a good amount of games coming for it in the first half.

Wii U...

I liked what they showed.
I sincerely loved the Mario Amiibo line. Really am more interested in this line than the Smash amiibo line. Also, the amiibo integration in Captain Toad looks really cool!
The Wii games announcement surprised me - as i was hoping for DS games.
That Bandai Namco announcement was... really confusing. The description and the visuals shown look like two different games. Personally i'm getting a FUSE vibe from Wii U's first free game! Awesome!

But then the bad news hit:

Another Fire Emblem for 3DS and still no sign of the Wii U version (announced 2 years ago).

Wii games are cool if you want to buy games like MP trilogy that cost a fortune today. But other than that, most great Wii games by Nintendo are still sold at pretty much 20€ or less if used. And so far there's no confirmation of 3rd party games coming to the eShop.

Speaking about the eShop, where are the N64 games? Where are the N64 games?

And the worst is that, for the third year straight, Wii U's first half is bare.
Only one more game than last year's first half. But at least, last year we got DK and MK 8. Two heavyweights. Kirby/Captain Toad, MP 10 and Splatoon are not heavyweights.
So, in the second half - and excluding the two project games - we have 7/8 games. Assuming there aren't more suprises coming, like a remade Mario game to celebrate the 30th anniversary.

How Nintendo expects to make Wii U rise in sales and change people's perception of the console is beyond me.

Still, one of the best NDs i ever saw!

#310667 Nintendo gone Mobile/Nintendo NX system

Posted by DéliopT on 17 March 2015 - 08:39 AM in General Gaming

If they bring original content to mobile devices their handheld and home console could benefit from that.

Give a little exposure to your franchises and leave people wanting more.

Of course, there's also the risk of people just sticking with them and that's it.

It will all depend on what franchises and what type of games they make for mobile devices.

Different experiences will probably be the best solution.

#310826 Nintendo gone Mobile/Nintendo NX system

Posted by DéliopT on 20 March 2015 - 04:17 PM in General Gaming

To me, a third pillar could only be a tablet. It made sense: Nintendo specific mobile games still on Nintendo's HW.

But since no announcement was made, then it most likely isn't it.

What i think NX is.

It's both the handheld and home console where both play basically the same games/share the same library.

This is what i have been thinking for a long time. Yet, because of this conference i can't shake the feeling it's something more.

I don't know if it's HW related, OS related... I just feel that there's more to that "brand new concept" than just the controller being different.
And when Iwata said that this mobile development situation affected the HW development for next gen i just knew that there was something more.
I can think of a few things:

He's actually talking about sharing the same library between systems;

It's just OS related and there's interaction between the mobile side and gaming dedicated devices;

This new machine will interact with QoL to help modify the game according to your physical state , thus adapting it to you and making it a unique experience every time you play;

With the inclusion of PCs and mobile devices, NX will allow to connect to the Android store and STEAM. And whe i mean connect i really mean to use your handheld/home console to use those services and play all their games.

#313011 Nintendo gone Mobile/Nintendo NX system

Posted by DéliopT on 14 May 2015 - 10:27 AM in General Gaming

Something crossed my mind today after reading the Q&A.

We all know that the NX talk isn't new, that Nintendo already talked about its new consoles early 2014.
The question is, why did Nintendo, at the press conference with DeNA, said "dedicated gaming device" and not "dedicated gaming devices"?; Why singular and not in plural if everyone already expected that?
And they still used that expression in singular form during the lates Investor's meeting.

Iwata's reply to a NX question:

"Your question also included the "current notion of thinking about home consoles and handheld devices." When it comes to how dedicated game systems are being played, the situations have become rather different, especially between Japan and overseas. Since we are always thinking about how to create a new platform that will be accepted by as many people around the world as possible, we would like to offer to them "a dedicated video game platform with a brand new concept" by taking into consideration various factors, including the playing environments that differ by country. This is all that I can confirm today."

Remember how he also mentioned how he wanted to change how HW is sold to consumers?

Then, what if, Nintendo really is just making one platform that will come alive through different type of HW?
Iwata already mentioned that he would like to increase the form factors, how he sees both handheld and home consoles for next gen, as brother and sister.

This could very well mean that the HW will execute the brand new concept Nintendo has for its HW but Nintendo could also release variants of the same HW ala Steam Machines/mobile devices.

If this is true it actually goes in line with AMD's statement of a 2016 deal that goes beyond gaming.

More and more, i'm convinced that NX isn't this or that HW, but it's actually a way to play their games. And i wouldn't be surprised if we saw some deals to incorporate NX into stuff like TV, Blu-ray players, etc.

From what i read, Atlus has also retweeted the ND. Could it be that we'll see FExSMT!?
One thing is garanteed, with Shibata taking part, we'll get release dates.

Nintendo doesn't have any more deals with DeNa to announce, otherwise they would have said so already.

And if the "leak" is talking about what was announced, Fall is the time period already chosen and talked about since Nintendo announced it would close Club Nintendo.

#299597 How Can Nintendo Fix Third Party Support?

Posted by DéliopT on 02 October 2014 - 08:23 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Nintendo has made huge profits after the GC and N64 era, as you just stated yourself. Also it's a very well known fact that Nintendo could $250 million for the next 40 years before they would be fully bankrupt. When you say long term you must mean very very long term, since 40 years could be as many as ten whole gaming generations. Also after the huge success of the Wii, the investors would be stupid to not try at least once more in the home console market, even if the Wii U is a failure.

And I definitely don't subscribe to this "Nintendo doesn't listen to it's gamers" crap. Nintendo has already produced a great liabrary for Wii u with even more great games o come. From metroid to frinking Mario, it's all there.Look around at Wii U owners, and they are satisfied as heck with their consoles. People can't even complain about lack of good games anymore because nintendo has provided a huge library of incredible games for Wii U. You know what Nintendo's problem is with gamers not being satisfied? They've set the bar too dang high. People complain about everything. "We want more original and old IP's Nintendo! Stop giving us this Mario crap!" Ok, so Nintendo goes and makes and buys new IPs. Do they sell? No, because the same people who were complaining don't want that game, they want Nintendo's old IPs, like Starfox and Metroid. Ohmygoodness, why doesn't Nintendo listen to it's gamers? Oh what's that, a new Starfox, Metroid, and Zelda in the works? "I wish Nintendo would go back to their old, more creative selves and make new IPs".

Seriously, there is no winning with Nintendo fans. Every time Nintendo brings back an old IP, people start begging for an even more obscure one that made even crappier sales. Every tiny thing Nintendo does wrong is proof of how they're "falling short" and "irrelevant" and you barely even hear about the great things they're doing.

The Wii U is a great console. Even if the sales aren't great, it's incredible. I know that because I own one, and I love it, and I've seen so. Many. Others say the same about theirs. The people I see complaining and criticizing most are people who don't even own one, and the people who for whatever reason refuse to go out and buy the huge library of great games the WIi U has.

Heck Nintendo is even listening and paying attention to the competitive smash community this gen, and last gen they practically spat in their face.

Anyway a lot of this crap people give Nintendo, stems from the same reason people crap people give Nintendo about third parties. As you said, it's about reputation. Sony, Microsoft and the "triple a" western devs have done an incredible job slandering Nintendo's name in the west. In fact that's why I asked this question in the first place, I wanted to see if there was anyone who could provide an actual solid argument for why this is Nintendo's fault, and why so much of the blame from them. All I had ever seen was people being mad at Nintendo simply for being Nintendo. Saying eff them for what is clearly the fault of others. That's all I've really seen in this thread as well. Straw grasping. People desperate to blame Nintendo because they're Nintendo so it must be them doing something wrong. It's impossible the other companies who have shown to be scumbags again and agian could possibly be responsible for being scumbags this time because Nintendo -who have been around since he beginning and created the majority of the most influential IPs of all time- is involved and we all know how irrelevant they are and how they hate and don't listen to their fans. How they hate change, and are stuck in the middle ages because, oh no, we don't have voice chat in mario kart. Does it matter that every time they try to change their "fans" whine and complaining that the game isn't exactly like how they remember gaming on their N64? Of course not. It couldn't be that their "fans" are never satisfied and have taken this stupid propaganda to heart and want to blame Nintendo for every little thing and jump on every tiny mistake they make while letting the other big game companies rape their wallets and abuse their "fans" without so much as batting an eye.

But honestly, at this point there's really not much Nintendo can do, except hope people gain some common sense. Changing your image as a company is already a notoriously hard thing. It verges on impossible. Doing so when the things that are said about you are already total crap lies? I don't think such a thing is possible at all.

Yes, Nintendo made a lot of money... they DID! They aren`t doing that anymore.
They might have a lot of money - which gives investors confidence that despite mistakes, the company will stand on it`s own - but that doesn`t mean Nintendo can just go around burning money.
They turned things around because, like many times, 3DS had no competition. But even then, just compare sales of the GBA and 3DS. GBA sold about 80m in it`s short life, 3DS which is another handheld to the core gamers, in 4 years, sold about half of the GBA.
That is a sign that someone is eating into it`s market. Do you think investors don`t see it?

With Wii U, Nintendo aren`t going to do a 3DS-like-turnaround, because in the home console business they really have competition and that, thus far, has proven to be extremely competent and desirable even when they fail.

I never said Nintendo needs to appeal better to it`s fanbase. Wasn`t even thinking about it, to be honest.
What i said is that Nintendo has failed time and time again to really grasp all core gamers, like Sony and MS did. And the question is why?

What are Sony and MS doing that Nintendo isn`t?
And the answer is, a lot!
N64 sold about 20m in the US because it offered the gaming options that people loved. Maybe not all, but it was when they really tried to please it`s biggest market with games like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and other.
They didn`t do that with the GC and they only sold 12m in the US.
They are not doing the same again this gen and you`ll see how those numbers will go down again.

I spoke of the US only, because it was the market where Nintendo sold the best. Because the same happened in Europe and Japan.

The problem is that with the N64, GC and Wii U Nintendo didn`t really go after a big chunk of gamers, be it by not offering the same type of games, HW or things like an account system.
They do their thing and that`s it. At least during the N64 days they had western studios that made the games they couldn`t in Japan. They really need that again.

I don`t care what people spread about Nintendo or this or that console. Nintendo is making the same mistakes for generations and until they correct them, the chances of winning more marketshare and mindshare is next to none.

Give people their Halo, Uncharted, Gears of War, Gran Turismo, exclusive to Nintendo consoles and you'll see gamers coming to Nintendo again - 3rd parties included.

#299670 How Can Nintendo Fix Third Party Support?

Posted by DéliopT on 03 October 2014 - 03:48 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I don't agree or understand some people who make it appear as though Nintendo should be everything to everyone. Many companies thrive creating their own niche and market. A failure or mistake can be learned from. A company can adapt but when they stray away from what makes them unique it becomes an even bigger problem and seen as desperate or copycatting to some people.

Nintendo continues to get a bad wrap about 3rd party support, but is that really what the conversation is about? Sony gets third party support and they have been laying off people left and right over the last year. The PS3 was a HUGE financial hit and even though PS4 sales are solid, it isn't making up any lost ground... and they have 3rd party support.

Microsoft seems to be getting away from it's focus of gaming and more on media entertainment. They want to own the living room and don't care whether it's you playing a game or browsing MSN. MS has 3rd party support and yet the console isn't selling gangbusters either.

The market is much different then last generation and it's most likely any of the 3 big companies will see any numbers even near the years of the Wii/PS360 .

It`s not really a question of becoming everything and doing the same as others, it`s more about expanding your offerings to expand your market.

During the N64, Nintendo had a more diverse catalog of exclusive titles with exclusive shooters, exclusive sports titles (not just the Mario bunch) and sales in the US were in the 20m. Had it had a GT kinda of game and sales would even be higher.

Than what happened?
Nintendo saw what made the PS1 succeed and basically did less than they did with the N64, not more.
Enter Wii U, and even less.

Nintendo needs to invest the money it has in the bank to at least go back to the N64 days where they had studios capable of providing the genres that people loved.
Why do you think Nintendo is developing Splatoon and that they showed it`s multiplayer aspect first at E3?

I`m not saying: copy MS or Sony. I'm saying that they really need to do something about the problem they have.

3rd parties could put out the same exact version on Wii U that they put on other consoles and things would still be bad.
Gamers - not core gamers as i do not want to offend anyone  ;) - who love games like Halo, GoW, GT, Uncharted, etc., know they are not going to find (exclusive) titles like that on Wii U, so why bother rushing to a shop a buy one, when the system selling exclusives pile up years after the console is out?

If Nintendo isn´t serious about increasing the userbase/marketshare of it`s home console business, don`t expect other companies to do it for them.
Wii U was just another example of that mistake.

#299678 How Can Nintendo Fix Third Party Support?

Posted by DéliopT on 03 October 2014 - 05:20 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Oh I understand about expanding the market. That's why I think Nintendo is on the right path for securing exclusives and doing more collaboration and tip toeing into the toy figurines with Amiiboo. The last thing we need is another console like the other big 2 that carry 95% of the same multiplats.

As an added thought, I also think Nintendo is on a good path to the way they present and announce their software lineup from general directs to game specific ones, tree house events and e3.

I just hope that their future exclusives are of the Resident Evil 4 caliber!

Their presentation style has improved but i hope they keep both styles of NDs. They do serve different purposes.

Seeing as next year will be the biggest year so far for Wii U, we will probably see a ND every month, just like we saw last year when 3DS had it`s best year, aswell.

#299543 How Can Nintendo Fix Third Party Support?

Posted by DéliopT on 01 October 2014 - 10:18 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I stopped here. I'm sorry but that is straight up not at all in anyway true. In fact I'm pretty sure Nintendo is the company that has made the most money off video games in the world to date and they certainly didn't make all that money by the end of the SNES era. That's one strange looking failure.

Wait what?

I wasn`t speaking about the financial side.
What happened (n the home console segment) after the SNES - and even with the SNES, as it lost marketshare to SEGA - is that in terms of marketshare and people`s perception, Nintendo keeps going downhill.
Yes, they struck gold with the Wii - and had they managed better the last 2 years like Sony did for PS3 and things would have been better for Wii U - but when it comes to the non-gamers or casual audience, Nintendo keeps going down the path of irrelevance. All the games they want are on MS and Sony camp. Why are they going to really bother buying a console that has about a handful of really great franchises?
As i said, nobody is going to rush to a store to buy a phone that only does a few exclusive, despite great, things, when they can a phone that offers them a lot more. Things that the mass market wants.

Wydra:
Making money in the N64 and GC (those consoles that tried to appeal to the core gamer) won`t save them in the long term.
With Wii U in danger of doing even less than the GC, what kind of future awaits Nintendo? Nintendo is only now making money on Wii U. Next gen, with development costs rising and a small userbase to sell them to, the profits are bound to go down.
If nothing changes at Nintendo, the home console business will stop being desirable to investors and they are going to start calling for it`s end.

Great post, some of the others failed to realize that you weren't taking about financial figures you were speaking about their relation to 3rd party developers, something only one who actually read the post would have comprehended.

Not just 3rd parties, but because of that and the lack of Nintendo's interest in offering games that gamers also want, they fail to build a market that really appeals to everyone. A market that is becoming smaller and smaller with each generation. Not to mention that the mobile market is eating into it`s, once, exclusive market: kids and families.

For some reason, MS entered the gaming business and went after Sony`s market and not Nintendo's market.

#299486 How Can Nintendo Fix Third Party Support?

Posted by DéliopT on 30 September 2014 - 04:10 PM in Wii U Games and Software

When Sony and MS came into the scene, they did 2 things: listen to developers and create na ecosystem for their own (3rd party games) to succeed.

In other words, they put out the HW and business model that pleased developers and they created a market for themselves by marketing, courting devs and most importantly, they invested in games that catered to that same market. And those games were of the type that Nintendo never meant to do.

Why has Nintendo failed since the SNES?

Because there was a new market that Nintendo simply overlooked.
Basically, Nintendo did it`s own thing, as they always did. The problem is, the competition - which started with Sega - didn`t do that.
They went after the gamers, they offered exclusives games of the franchises gamers were starting to love. They went after developers and sold them a market.
And because they did that, they won.

Nintendo isn't losing marketshare because of the mistakes of the past, they are losing marketshare and even mindshare, because they are always one step behind their competition - when they actually decide to go after that competition.
Until Nintendo realises that gamers want all the online thingies, (exclusive) shooters and other games like GoW, Uncharted, Halo, Destiny, etc., Nintendo is always going to be a second choice not just for gamers, but for developers.

People aren`t going to buy, in droves, a console, that will have about a handful of great exclusive franchises and about, little more the same number in games, of said franchises per generation.
Nintendo franchises can sell a good number of consoles, but they aren`t diverse enough to attract millions of gamers, anymore.

#306354 If nintendo uses X86 on their next console, will you buy it?

Posted by DéliopT on 03 January 2015 - 03:10 PM in Wii U Hardware

Its a good point, and plus, Nintendo abandoned any different game, like any racer beyond mario kart, they dont have any FPS, or anything out of their comfort zone.

That has always been Nintendo's problem on the home console market: they just didn't compete after the SNES.
N64 was probably the last console where they actually tried getting games that people liked and helped them a lot in the US: Nintendo Sports titles (even became a brand), Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, San Francisco Rush, Turok. Yet, they forgot about Europe and Japan tastes, basically.

I like Iwata, i really do, i think he's the man for the job, but at the same time it's mindblowing how blind - or willingly blind - Nintendo can be.
During the Wii days they saw that despite its success, they lacked the big titles except for CoD. No AC, no Dead Space, no GTA, no nothing. And that is something that you know it's going to be absent of your library for at least 2 years (minimum time to develop those games).

What did they do? They did absolutely nothing.
They lacked all the games and genres that made PS and XB a success amongst gamers and didn't do anything to try and build a userbase for those franchises to hop onto Nintendo's consoles and now they are hurting, and hurting badly.
