Even if the main RAM is completely free, doesn't it leave like only 400 MB @ 30fps or 200 MB @ 60 fps of data available per frame (which is the case of Mario Kart 8) ?

no because again your ignoring the facts ITS ALL ON MCM THE MAIN  RAM ISNT USED AS YOUR THINKING

 

its used a s a feeder not a MAIN RAM your rendering etc is ON CHIP as long as you have space to catch disc/drive data into thats all you need

 

devs have already stated wiiu ram is kinda unlimited in that regards YOUR STREAMING IN not main ram processing at all



I know this might sound a real dumb question, I'm not a tech junkie at all, but with all these numbers being thrown around, what happens when Nintendo come along and refine the OS, and possibly unlock another 500 meg of RAM. Will developers need to re-write/patch software for that change? Do gaming engines like, re-calculate, automatically for more resources?   

no because each game works withion its own standards any re formating of os is auto matic etc

 

so lets say nintendo says in a direct we have found 10% more processing power for devs to use and have unlocked 512mb of extrra ram its up to devs if they want to use it

 

it has no bearing on us playing those games they simply just work

The cpu is a power pc 750 series. Just like game cube, and just like wii. That is, if you think an i3 is just the same as an i7 because they are both icores.

Gekko was a 750 cxe. Broadway was a 750 cle. Espresso is based off of a 750Gx or Fx or later. Someone may want to look those up to see how they compare to broadway.

@orion, the small unknown chip is a multicore arm secure processor, likely serving a similar but gteater role as the arm secure processor on the wii's gpu die, starlet.

Black Ops II became a wasteland for people trying to use the Wiimote seriously because Treyarch didn't bother to properly playtest with it (you couldn't adjust sensitivity and the cursor jumped across the screen while aiming) and Duel Analog controllers enjoyed the most powerful aim assist of any Call of Duty game to date, which gave them an overwhelming advantage over the already gimped Wiimote. The end result was predictable as traditional controllers managed to outclass wiimote users at every level outside of the top.

 

Don't repeat this mistake.

 

Personally I like to see a return to lag shooting over lag compensation, but the deal breaker for me (and a lot of other pertinacious people who stuck with the Wiimote.) is to see the same sort of system from Black Ops II be used for Ghosts. So please, make sure the wiimote is properly tested to function and reduce Aim assist, at least for the WiiU version since there are multiple controller types as opposed to the 360/PS4 and a proper balance needs to be stuck.

ps4 is a pc no ifs no buts ITS A PC FACT it also works entirly in main ram ""NO SUPER CATCH OF ANY KIND""

it also has a hacked gpu to ram set up and the slowest posible ram avalable GDDR5 200ns

ps4 reads and write with main ram constantly for all tasks like a pc its extreamly latent and has bottle necking issue's ITS A CHEAP APU NOTHING MORE !!

what do we mean by 1 gb ram are we implying its SMALL OR SOMTHING ??

wiiu is a MCM on that mcm is the biggest and most advanced gpgpu memory sub system in existence a huge amount of catch and 3 different catches

32mb edram 2mb edram 1mb sram 35mb total over 3 catches

ps4s gpu has around 512k of catch wiiu clearly has 70x more !!!!! and catches dedicated to different areas of the gpu

wiiu sends data from main ram then processes it on MCM not continualy in and out of main ram FAST DARN FAST AND EFFICENT

you are massivly reducing your main ram usage your effectivly making it a feeder of data not a main ram reads reads reads reads from edram into logic do not require main ram

wiius compression is better than last gen,and its trickery for saving space also toki turi devs saved 100mb ram for identicle textures to ps3 x360 WHY?? becausewiiu uses less ram than those machines to do the same texture storing

so wiiu is doing something clever here so more ram more power more efficency and more trickery =far more textures

xbox360 developers have said in forums id rather have x360s 10mb edram than 256mb more main ram WHY ??

wiiu main ram in gaming terms is like 3.5 x ps3 and easy up there with ps4

i think xeno/mario kart 8 did some serious ps4 slapping at e3

ps4 main ram rendering and work at 200ns latency

wiiu EDRAM rendering and work all on MCM at sub 5ns latency

1gb is plenty and more could be unlocked 8gb ram ps4 is not about power its about giving devs a LAZY MANS DEVICE TO DEV FOR
