#224906 Rejoined Team Nintendo

Posted by ccccombo on 21 June 2013 - 02:15 AM in Introduction Central

That's got to be the most well-written introductory post ever! Nice to hear another optimist is coming on board. One thing though: you can never be too old to enjoy Mario games!!

#223889 Sony's Secret DRM Plan same as Xbox One?

Posted by ccccombo on 18 June 2013 - 10:09 PM in General Gaming

I don't think there is anything wrong in having to pay for online multiplayer on PS4. MS has been doing it for years. Sony is only following suit. Considering that its going to be part of PS Plus where you get discounts and free games its not all that bad. If they can provide a service as robust as Xbox Live then its worth it in my opinion.

You're implying there aren't any top quality games on Sony and Microsoft consoles which simply isn't true. So there is no logic in your statement. Not to mention people who own Nintendo consoles also sell and trade games.

Regardless, that is still Nintendo's sole method for combating used game sales, and I prefer that method.

#223888 Game & Wario or Pikmin 3?

Posted by ccccombo on 18 June 2013 - 10:06 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Does Pikmin play like Starcraft or other RTS games? If so and it comes with local multi, I know what I will be playing.

It doesn't play like other RTS games. I does have a local multiplayer mode.

#223087 Sony's Secret DRM Plan same as Xbox One?

Posted by ccccombo on 17 June 2013 - 02:54 PM in General Gaming

Once they get an early lead against Xbox, they'll probably implement something similar, yes.

I prefer Nintendo's method of fighting used-game sales: creating better games that people don't want to sell!

#222721 New Monolith Soft X Game E3 trailer

Posted by ccccombo on 16 June 2013 - 12:15 PM in Wii U Games and Software

really wish i could get some good native res screens of this game. I got some great ones of bayo2, but there aint didly for e3 x yet.

Where are the native res shots of B2?

really want a ps4, but the design is sooooo ugly. Reminds me of the fat ps2

Looks like 2 PS2s squished together!

#222718 Wind Waker HD Price?

Posted by ccccombo on 16 June 2013 - 12:07 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I believe it was also confirmed that no new content was added. So where is the incentive? If you've never played this game or if you just absolutely adore Wind Waker, those are probably the only reasons to get this.

Yeah, I was thinking about it as someone who didn't play the original game. I suppose if you already played/own it, paying full price wouldn't feel right.

#222568 Wind Waker HD Price?

Posted by ccccombo on 16 June 2013 - 02:36 AM in Wii U Games and Software

It better be $40 or $50 because I believe Halo Anniversary was $40 on release and Resident Evil: Revelations like someone mentioned already was $50. As much as I love Wind Waker, I think the idea of a remake at full price simply angers people.

Wind Waker will be a much, much... MUCH better game than RE:R.

I suspect it will be full retail price. Those waiting for a price drop will probably be waiting for a long time as Nintendo published games take a long time to drop in price if they do at all.

This. Don't wait 1 or 2 years just to save 10 or 20 dollars. That's petty.

#222566 High quality videos from Wii U demos

Posted by ccccombo on 16 June 2013 - 02:30 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Seeing Wii U games in 60fps makes all the difference.. Mario Kart looks so much better than even NFS Most Wanted U, which already looked better than the 360 version. More importantly, it looks way more FUN!

#222046 Pikmin 3 Bingo Battle Mode

Posted by ccccombo on 14 June 2013 - 10:50 PM in Wii U Games and Software

It has a 2-player mode? I wasn't sure about getting it because I don't like strictly one-player games... now I just might!

#222042 The Wii U should have been as powerful as the Xbox one.

Posted by ccccombo on 14 June 2013 - 10:36 PM in Wii U Hardware

Thats the exact point of the example. its called diminishing returns.

You cant tell much of a difference, but the amount of power it takes to produce the very high crysis 3 screen over the low crysis 3 screen absolutely dwarfs the amount of power it takes to get to the crysis 1 very high screen from the low settings screen.

Except, most people cant tell the difference past a certain point. Diminishing returns.

vX8jkHD.png

So then, everyone should be able to agree here that the difference between Wii U and PS4 is like the High and Low settings on Crysis 3. There will be occasions when developers use PS4's extra power just for the sake of showing off what it can do (I hate stuff like that, personally - I don't want to play tech demos!), but 99% of the time there won't be a significant difference, and what difference there is will enhance how FUN a game is exactly 0% of the time.

#221803 My Best Buy Wii U Experience

Posted by ccccombo on 14 June 2013 - 12:40 PM in Wii U Hardware

They shouldn't have done the whole best buy thing, I mean why not for the Eshop for like 3 tries? Project X Zone has that and that's coming really soon.

Nice story, but like others have said, why the hell didn't nintendo release these as demos on the eshop?

Nintendo should start putting these demo's up on the eshop.  That would be the best way to get people excited for them.  I think its working for Rayman Legends.

The games are there to sell consoles. We already have those. They don't need to promote these games to Wii U owners.

#221799 Super Mario 3D World Camera Feature

Posted by ccccombo on 14 June 2013 - 12:27 PM in Wii U Games and Software

That's a very cool feature, and yet another reason why the gamepad rocks!

#221798 The Wii U should have been as powerful as the Xbox one.

Posted by ccccombo on 14 June 2013 - 12:21 PM in Wii U Hardware

Lol @this thread.

Wii u games looked awesome. Mario and Mario Katy characters looked like something from a Pixar movie.

Smash is very early and already on its way to achieving picaresque character models.

X and bayonetta were insane.

Basically the wii u looks nearly as powerful as x1 right now.

Ps4 trumps both in the power department and that was evident.

But wii u is right up there despot being cheaper and a year older.

The x1 graphics concerned me actually. Metal gear was a lot less impressive than I hoped. Titanfsll looks ok.

Ryse looked really good.

But nothing looked like the Division or anything.

I don't see how anyone can possibly come away anything but excited about how wii u games look when built specifically for wii u.

The games look gorgeous and truly next gen.

Great job Nintendo.

Now the third parties can take notice.

Quoted for truth.

Yeah the games look amazing now but what if they're already pushing it too it's limit? It's a scary thought that those awesome looking ps4 games are just launch games!

Those 'awesome looking' ps4 games are full of CGI cut scenes masquerading as gameplay. Sony has been using that trick since the PS2's reveal. Also, you're too quick to dismiss the awesomeness of X and Bayonetta 2, among others (WW HD, in 1080 60fps, at times looks more beautiful than any PS4 game). If those games don't look good enough for a $300 console, you're simply, absolutely insane.

It is releated!, because if the wii u had decent power, then other devs would make games for it, even port  multiplatform games, porting games easily and quickly without spending a few years learning  how to gain all the consoles power requires the destination console to be more powerful, much like when 360 games get ported to PC, the wii u is not underpowered compared to the 360, but is when you need to do direct ports quickly, devs had a few years to get to know the ps3 and 360 so they have no issues, The Wii does not have the luxury of time now, especially now the 2 powerhouses xbox one and ps4 are coming, the wii u is left behind! I am so disappointed and feel ROBBED!!!!

How can you feel robbed? You sound like you're 8 years old. There's no way you were the one who paid for the Wii U.

Because I would have gladly forked out an extra $100 on a system that can produce more visually impressive games. It also would have made things much easier in the systems life 3/4 years down the track when we are trying to get 3rd party ports over.

You're in the minority there, buddy. At $400 and with no Gamepad, the Wii U would have sold far fewer consoles. It wouldn't have had more third-party support, since those companies still would have played this 'wait and see' game. Worse, the first-year Wii U versions of multiplatformers still would have only looked on par with the PS360 versions, due to developer's time constraints and/or laziness (which is the reason they only looked on-par). Lower system sales = earlier that third-parties give up. You would not have been happier in that scenario.

I wouldn't trade the Gamepad for $100 worth of more RAM. The Gamepad makes the Wii U what it is. It's an amazingly useful interface, and the greatest controller of all time.

We know pretty much everything about its gameplay. You dont know anything.... Probably because you didnt play its predecessor.

Visual prowess doesnt scale linearly with the increase of the systems power, unfortunately, its quite the opposite.

Welcome to the law of diminishing returns.

I see a big difference between High and Low on Crysis 1, but Crysis 3 looks identical on either side. I'm not familiar with that series, could you elaborate what you mean to say with that example?

#221784 No online multiplayer for Mario 3D World

Posted by ccccombo on 14 June 2013 - 12:03 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Whatever. Much ado about nothing. The funny thing is, the same people complaining about no online multi are the ones who were disappointed that they didn't announce Galaxy 3 - a game that would have pretty much been strictly one-player, like the previous ones.

As the developer said, this is the first 3D mario to have even local multiplayer. At least try that out before demanding anything.

#221781 Monolith Soft's X

Posted by ccccombo on 14 June 2013 - 11:58 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I loved Xenoblade Chronicles.  The only problem is that it taught me what "Pop-in" was.  X looks beautiful though.  My most wanted Wii U game after Smash Bros.  I really wish that the trailer had given us something new like info on the story.  We really didn't learn anything new about the game from the trailer.

That's funny, I haven't seen any pop-in in Xenoblade. That was one of the better aspects of the game's graphics, which weren't even above average for the Wii.

#221778 Activision confirms Call Of Duty Ghosts on Wii U

Posted by ccccombo on 14 June 2013 - 11:53 AM in Wii U Hardware

I'm not buying it on Wii U unless they confirm that COD GHOSTS WII U will be getting DLC. I'm not wasting $60 again. I want DLC

So you wouldn't waste $60 buying Call of Duty without DLC, because you want to waste more than $60 buying a Call of Duty and DLC? wtf... The Wii U version's features like off-tv play, and especially double-screen local multiplayer, make up for any lack of 10$ DLC packs that are just a waste of money anyway.

#221578 Wii U Wishlist

Posted by ccccombo on 14 June 2013 - 05:19 AM in Wii U Games and Software

My Wii U wishes:

- Installments of Dead or Alive and Soulcalibur

- a new Super Monkey Ball

- a good original arcade-style racing game (as opposed to F1, sim, or kart styles)

- Wii U Sports

- ??

I already got some of my wishes, like new Sonic and Donkey Kong games, taken care of. :D Not too many left.. Surprise me!

#221571 Zelda Wind Waker Wii U/GameCube comparison

Posted by ccccombo on 14 June 2013 - 05:01 AM in Wii U Games and Software

It's not a good way to compare the two, cramming them into tiny lo-res boxes like that (and stretching the GC version to an unnatural 16:9 format).

The following video is a better comparison, as it keep the GC's aspect ratio AND seems to be from a 480i source, which is how almost every Gamecube owner would have originally experienced it.

The real difference will be even bigger, since the HD version runs in 1080p at constant 60fps (GC version was 30fps). A real side-by-side comparison video would need to have the Wii U version take up the whole screen, and the GC version in a little 640x480 box in a corner.

All that, PLUS the improved textures and lighting, make for a HUGE difference. Come on, the GC version looks okay, but the Wii U version looks like a freaking Miyazaki Hayao film in 3D.

#218963 Fifa still *isn't* coming to WiiU?

Posted by ccccombo on 11 June 2013 - 01:43 AM in E3 2013 Archive

EA, it's your own fault it didn't sell well. You used a year-old engine compared to the brand-new one used on PS360. You didn't target any advertising toward Nintendo gamers. You released it on launch day, competing with 22 other games. You created extremely negative PR with Nintendo gamers through your employee's hostile words and other game cancellations. And you only make it worse by cancelling that one. Truly, the worst company in the world!

#216919 Is the wii u THAT underpowered?

Posted by ccccombo on 06 June 2013 - 09:27 PM in Wii U Hardware

Wii U isn't underpowered. It's on par with what's affordable and modern at this point in time. The PS3 and 360 were actually overpowered for their time, which is why they were expensive (even moreso to manufacture) and prone to breaking down. The Wii was underpowered. The PS4 and XB1 might be again slightly overpowered, but not to the same extent as the last generation, and their price will reflect that.

Side-note: the Xb1 and Ps4 are so similar, hardware-wise, how could anyone buy both and not feel ripped off? Hackers might even be able to make games run on either system in a couple years.

#216896 What would have happened had Nintendo done another Wii?

Posted by ccccombo on 06 June 2013 - 08:59 PM in Wii U Hardware

I'm glad Nintendo ditched the concept of all the games using that motion crap. Sometimes someone just want's to use a controller and that's why I think the Wii U is already a superior system.

They didn't ditch it, they just introduced another concept alongside it. They figured, Heck, since our touchscreen-based handhelds sell so well, that means a touchscreen-based console will, too.

Exactly. I just hate having a gimmick forced. That's why I usually turn of the 3D on my 3DS. Some games are great with motion controls but I don't want to be required to do it with many of the games it forced me to do it with.

But the motion controls were never forced. The classic controller pro was available since the Wii's launch. The only things that kept it from being on par with the 360 and PS3's controllers were the lack of force feedback, and the tethering to a Wii Remote. But develops always had the option of non-motion controls.
