#272902 Smogon banned Mega Lucario and Genesect

Posted by Zinix on 16 February 2014 - 04:11 PM in General Gaming

gah ive explained this before

Mega Lucario's biggest asset is its unpredictability. It can effectively run a variety of diverse sets, all of which can easily sweep with a turn of set-up. His movepool is insane too, with a few great priority options mixed in. Since this meta is very priority based at the moment, he's a giant threat regardless on how you use him.

I don't really agree with the banning of Genesect, though. It can easily be walled by Heatran and 2OHKOed by Talonflame. I just never saw it as a big threat.

It isn't unpredictable like Mega Charizard X/Y. Lucario is mostly a physical sweeper. Rarely do you see him run mixed anymore, it's just not as common as a physical set. His fragile defense and being able to be countered with a lot different Pokemon seems unreasonable to ban him. I understood Gengar, Khang, but this is just stupid lol. They had abilities that were broken. Lucario doesn't. He can be stopped by Clefable, Slyveon, Goodra, Disable Slowbro, etc.

#273070 Nokia will reportedly unveil its Android phone later this month

Posted by Zinix on 17 February 2014 - 10:09 AM in The Café

Nokia is preparing to unveil its first Android phone later this month. The Wall Street Journal reports that Nokia will unveil its "Normandy" phone at Mobile World Congress later this month. Citing sources familiar with Nokia’s plans, the WSJ reiterates previous reports from The Verge that Nokia’s first Android phone will use a modified "forked" version of Google’s operating system. The effort is similar to Amazon’s use of Android for its Kindle range of tablets, and Nokia is expected to integrate Microsoft services onto the device with a special application store for some existing Android apps.

Nokia has scheduled a press event later this month at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, hinting only at "meet us under the tree." The Finnish smartphone-maker also recently teased an upcoming Windows Phone announcement, but The Verge understands Nokia will not focus heavily on its future Windows Phone plans at Mobile World Congress. Instead, Nokia will reportedly detail its Android "Normandy" phone, which is expected to be named "Nokia X" once it starts shipping. With a lack of Google Play Store access on Nokia’s Android phone, the company may be forced to focus on any apps it has managed to successfully port to its forked version of Android.

AN ANDROID HANDSET WITH A WINDOWS PHONE UI

Previous leaks have revealed that Nokia’s Android device includes a Windows Phone-like UI, and can run Android apps like Skype, Twitter, Vine, Facebook, and BBM. Photos of what appears to be a near-final unit of the "Normandy" Android phone have also appeared, showing a handset that looks similar to Nokia’s low-end Windows Phone devices. While Microsoft continues to target low-cost with Windows Phone, Nokia’s Android phone will also focus on this market with low-end specifications like just 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. Nokia’s Mobile World Congress press event takes place on February 24th, and we’ll be there to bring you the latest on Normandy.

#273071 Police Shoot, Kill 80-Year-Old Man In His Bed, Don't Find Drugs They Were...

Posted by Zinix on 17 February 2014 - 10:12 AM in The Café

In the early morning hours of June 27, 2013, a team of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies pulled up to the home of Eugene Mallory, an 80-year-old retired engineer living in the rural outskirts of Los Angeles county with his wife Tonya Pate and stepson Adrian Lamos.

The deputies crashed through the front gate and began executing a search warrant for methamphetamine on the property. Detective Patrick Hobbs, a self-described narcotics expert who claimed he "smelled the strong odor of chemicals" downwind from the house after being tipped off to illegal activity from an anonymous informant, spearheaded the investigation.

The deputies announced their presence, and Pate emerged from the trailer where she'd been sleeping to escape the sweltering summer heat of the California desert. Lamos and a couple of friends emerged from another trailer, and a handyman tinkering with a car on the property also gave himself up without resistance. But Mallory, who preferred to sleep in the house, was nowhere to be seen.

Deputies approached the house, and what happened next is where things get murky. The deputies said they announced their presence upon entering and were met in the hallway by the 80-year-old man, wielding a gun and stumbling towards them. The deputies later changed the story when the massive bloodstains on Mallory's mattress indicated to investigators that he'd most likely been in bed at the time of the shooting. Investigators also found that an audio recording of the incident revealed a discrepancy in the deputies' original narrative:

Before listening to the audio recording, [Sgt. John] Bones believed that he told Mallory to "Drop the gun" prior to the shooting. The recording revealed, however, that his commands to "Drop the gun" occurred immediately after the shooting.

When it was all over, Eugene Mallory died of six gunshot wounds from Sgt. John Bones' MP-5 9mm submachine gun. When a coroner arrived, he found the loaded .22 caliber pistol the two deputies claimed Mallory had pointed at them on the bedside table.

Mallory had not fired a single shot. The raid turned up no evidence of methamphetamine on the property.

To find out more about this case, including details about what the police did find, watch the above video, featuring Mallory's widow Tonya Pate. Pate has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, an agency plagued by prison abuse scandals, questionable hiring practices, and allegations of racial profiling and harassment in recent years.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department declined multiple requests to comment on this story.

#273188 Kitase explains why Square Enix is too lazy to make Final Fantasy VII HD Remake

Posted by Zinix on 17 February 2014 - 06:05 PM in General Gaming

inal Fantasy series producer Yoshinori Kitase, who also served as director on Final Fantasy VII, has once again commented on the prospect of a remake of that game, in a talk with Eurogamer.

According to Kitase, “staff availability and budget” are two of the biggest obstacles that prevent the remake from being greenlit, but there’s also another barrier in its way—Kitase’s own motivation to work on such a project.

“Even if I casually say I would like to do that, because it would be a huge project I would have to motivate myself to the level that I really am prepared to take on this huge responsibility,” Kitase said.

He continued: “I don’t know if those three things will happen simultaneously. It has to tick lots of very big boxes. I won’t rule out the possibility, but it would take a lot to make it happen. But should I ever take it on, it would have to be the biggest project I’ve done. My life work. So I would have to be as highly motivated as that to end up with something I’m very happy with. #273194 Watch dogs wii u delayed

Posted by Zinix on 17 February 2014 - 06:57 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I don't get all this Ubisoft bashing. They make some of the best games around. Sure, they also make some pretty bad games, but so does every developer. Also, every developer plays the delay game. They've got to for financial reasons. I think they're a decent company.

The Rayman Legends delay+ the decision to make it multiplatform & delaying this will cause encouragement.
