Nintendo are rumoured to be giving Wii U dev kit’s to third parties free of charge….

images-11.jpg
Jonathan Holmes of Destructoid has revealed to the Twitterverse than Nintendo may be handing our more than one Wii U dev kit free of charge….

Hearing more and more stories of Nintendo giving developers free Wii U dev kits. I hope devs take advantage of that. Could lead to victories

@TronKnotts/status/320243046916706304

He went on about how he sees the Wii U performing in the long run, considering the good rumblings he is hearing…Finally some good news on the Wii U front, games are releasing, sales are picking up and now industry professionals are backing the machine!

I think of Wii U as next gen, and thought it's had a shaky start, it could very well end up getting the most support in the end

Sorry I'm having trouble embedding the twitter posts, it isn't as straightforward as it should be.

Yeah i just read this on GAF, go for it!  does it seem that Nintendo are going all out on indies but not so on 3rd party's?

Ummm.  Indies are 3rd parties, and this isn't limited to indie developers, apparently its for established development houses as well, probably limited to self published devs though.

Good news indeed! Hope E3 can bring some concrete revelations. Hopefully some exclusives seeing as these games don`t cost a lot to develop anyway.

This would be absolutely fantastic if it were true. So many more games could be made, making E3 even more amazing than it (hopefully and potentially) is going to be

Things titled with " Rumor" can be taken with a grain of salt.. Although it would be great, I'm extremely skeptical!

I was once known here as KillerMario, but since I really like Banjo-Kazooie, I changed my display name to show them my respect :)

Im all up for more indie devs but hopefully Nintendo will be able to reel in the big third-party devs.

Its been confirmed with several developers, apparently the developers of two brothers got their dev kit for free and NoA has been handing more of them out.

They aren't going to get that with Dev Kits.  That takes a business case from the publisher, which puts ubi and activision on board, and perhaps square.

hopefully they arent ust giving them out but communicating with developers on how to get the most out of the hardware(graphics)... i know the unity engine is the default engine for Wii U devkits. i also heard this is more geared towards indies and not bigger third party developers... but beggers cant be choosers.

Of course, im just saying that Nintendo shouldn't put all their focus on just indie devs.

Does anyone have any clue on to how much these dev kits cost?

And this rumour states, Ninty's giving some for free. It would be stupid if third parties didn't give it a try.

About $5,000 I think.

Even at the risk of some shovelware it will help give the eshop a huge boost, hopefully we can get some Australian Devs working on it like Halfbrick and Fire Monkey.
