I don't think moulnbrado would want to implement shoutboxes.

I'm really limited with the plugin implementations. I can modify some hooks and plugins in a roundabout way, but don't have permission to directly change it.

Even if I could implement a shoutbox, I'm not too fond of it. I've been on forums where shoutboxes worked, but those forums were very small with an active userbase of about 7 or 8 members. Larger forums, it just looks kind of bad or like those sites with a messy chatango box on the side.

Well we aren't that big, yes we get a lot of visitors but we only have a small amount of "core" members that'll be using it.

I don't think Mournblade can implement shoutboxes.

Maybe we can find a chat room that we can embed, put it in a sticky post, and users can always go to that topic if they ever wanna chat

It's not the same thing chatting in a topic. Instant Messaging needs to be exactly that - instant. You have to be able to see each message as it's posted, without having to refresh, or wait for it to post.

We have tried (or shall I say others have) outside chat services, like skype or xat (an awful dated service) and they have all more or less failed due to the members immaturely running them.

The problem is to have a responsible user in charge of a chat service, skype group, or whatever, and that wasn't likely back when chat was taken away. I don't know about now as some users have grown up a little and others have left.

I personally don't really have the time while I'm taking classes to do something like that. It would be possible for me to put something together over my break, but it wouldn't really be a true WUF chat.

It only needs to be instant when people like abcdude want to post single images, then another, and another and... for about 10 minutes straight before their add kicks in.

No, it also needs to be instant if you want to actually have everyone invest in the chat. Like I said before, there's a reason instant chat was invented and has become so popular.
