the chances of sony going powerful are miniscule. have you not seen how much they made of the ps3 and vita, thier first time trying to be the most powerful (other than psp)? they made massive losses, not a penny of profit, that mixed with the fact that sony openly said they wont invest in ps4 much confirms ps4 will be weak and cheap like ps2 and ps1

I think you're looking into it a bit too much. The Vita hasn't sold horribly, it's been rather mediocre but that was to be expected since it was being released over Christmas when Monster Hunter 3G had just been released and the 3DS was going strong. Besides, just because they won't go for an absolute powerhouse with the PS4 doesn't mean it will be weak. I still expect it to be more powerful than both Xbox 720 and Wii U simply because that's how Sony does things these days. You have to remember that consoles are developed over a long period of time, so Sony wouldn't have time to completely rework the specs just because the Vita's sold a bit poorly. Apparently a Playstation magazine here in the UK got a hold of the PS4 and 720 specs and claims the PS4 is more powerful, of course you can't 100% trust it as it is a mag based around Sony's consoles, but it's likely to have some truth to it.

Have you seen vitas sales... 400 thousand first week, many were preorders, 73 thousand second week, 76 percent drop, 48 thousand third week... I dont know what vita your talking about but its doing absolutely terrible. even the 3ds had slighter drops than that.. Honestly i dont think the ps4 will be that powerful as sony really doesnt have the money to drop another 6 years of straight losses

firstly the reason why vita sold poorly is not what matters, its the fact that sony is losing money. sony hasnt made any profit since it decided to start using high power tech and used to make tonnes when it made weak tech. for those reasons it will go back to weakness. also they already said theyre not gonna go tech heavy, so its pretty much confirmed unless they change their minds. and the magazine is obviously lying since it wants people to think ps4 is gonna be awesome so people dont buy wii u and wait for ps4. dirty game. lastly, sony has insisted it doesnt plan to launch a new console for ages. the only reason they will is because of wii u, meaning theyve only just started making it so they will change specs depending on vita sales.

correct they have stated that they will not invest heavily on the ps4 as they did on the ps3 but please stop saying sony isnt finacially stable because thats just incorrect.

nintendo could have sold twice as many wii's and im pretty sure they still wouldnt even come close to sony's revenue

dont be a fanboy as its pretty likely the ps4 will be stronger

I just want to point out a few things....
Firstly, you probably are correct that the PS will be more powerful
Secondly, Nintendo sold every single Wii for a profit of upwards of 58$, while Sony has sold every single PS3 besides this year at a loss of hundreds of dollars.
Thirdly, Nintendo is a gaming only company and is worth more than Sony, which sells almost anything technology wise. Also Sony does not expect to sale vita for a profit within at least 3 years
Fourthly, Sony has had a loss in revenue for the past 3-4 years
Fifthly, don't be haten on Crackkat for pointing out the facts, and you are most likely a fanboy for calling him one.
Sixthly, don't hate me i'm the messenger and all of my facts come directly from Chuck Norris

Don't be a fool. The PS3 lost Sony so much money they lost all profit they've have had within the console market. Worse many of their other departments aren't doing overly while on their own for a few years. Nintendo is a much bigger company than many realize. They've made profit off of the Wii since the beginning likewise with the DS. Nintendo hardware has made Nintendo billions of dollars while Sony has lost billions and only recently to my knowledge began making a profit. The razor edge model is dead at least to the extremes of the PS3. The Vita is Sony's future attitude toward hardware going forward. Low R&D using mature technology while taking advantage of developments in hardware. Really I wouldn't be surprised with Sony taking a lower cost direction with PS4 depending on the result of the Vita.

You are completely right there is no profit that Sony has made in at least 6 years and they will most likely make it like the Wii and the GCN with the GCN not too far away from the Wii's power. I honestly think that Sony will now be the least powerful of the gen. Also yes people do underestimate Nintendo's MASSIVE industry. They have made billions over the last year and are in a much better state for high production costs. Microsoft to me is just the big mystery.

There's power, and then there's affordable power.

Of course, it doesn't really matter to me anymore. See, there's this thing roughly around E3 time. It's called "Juliar Gillard's 'promised never to happen' Carbon Tax: Gotcha Edition".

woah i never said sony is financially unstable!! i said the fact, they havent made a penny in gaming since ps3, not being a fanboy. its a fact that you got to get over, sony only survives because it does a good job in its other divisions (TVs bluray players etc). i see no reason why ps4 is likely to be more powerful than wii u other than it launching later. as i said earlier, if it launches in 2014 it probably will be a little more powerful, but if it launches in 2013, then its not at all guaranteed, it can go either way. logic would indicate that sony will see its history and see that it has made the most money when it used to make the weakest hard ware.

I dont think that any of us are being fanboys BTW. I think that though the WiiU will NOT be the strongest it will definitively not be the weakest.

I can't say anything if it is going to be strongest, the weakest or in the middle. As long as it can compete with the strength of the competition, while also being developer friendly ( which was why a lot of games that are multiplat between the ps3 and 360 used the 360 as the lead console thus making it the best version). There also the fact with Nintendo's legendary IP's and new IP that they may make or revive will also give it an edge. So all we can do is wait and see what Microsoft, Sony and any other company that want to make a console do.

sorry bro, this is not sony's gaming department, im sure you know that sony makes tonnes of different things, each division in a company has a budget, they cant all take unlimited funds from the whole companies bank account, it doesnt work that way. the gaming division has not made a penny this gen, the others have, but as a result those in charge of gaming will not be trusted with as much money as they previously have been by the other divisions so they will not be given as large a capital to make ps4. this is why they may have to go weak, surprising things happen in the gaming world, but really they make perfect sense from a business stand point.

and btw i agree the word fan boy should not be taken so harshly, i like to define fanboy as someone who prefers something. im a nintendo fanboy, but not a nintendo drone because i dont argue in favor of nintendo blindly, sorry i got defensive.

i understand your point but mines was that as long as there is a whole sony corporation they would never let there gaming department go out of business unless they choose for it to end. im pretty sure the gaming division gets funds from its parent company every now and then.

yes there is a difference the difference is nintendo will never have as much money or be bigger than microsoft, and sony because they only make games while sony and microsoft are multimedia corporations .

But generally when you lose several billion dollars per year on one department for no reason, you tend to want to let that department go. (Also, the PS3 slim is still being sold at a loss of about $40 per console.)

actually it wasnt for no reason and considering the ps3 didnt flop and will be supported for another ten years sony will profit eventually just not as much as they expected.

by the way when you dominate the last two generations of consoles you tend to keep the department that did the dominating

ps1/ps2

"ps3 didn't flop"

This alone is ignoring the obvious. Sony lost two billion dollars per year for 3 years in a row on the PS3, and they're still losing a ton of money. In fact, they've lost any and all profit that they would have had with the PS1 AND PS2.

"Will be supported for another 10 years"

Just like the PS2 was "supported" with one sports game a year, yes?

"by the way when you dominate the last two generations of consoles you tend to keep the department that did the dominating"

Not if it loses several billion dollars for almost 10 years in a row. (PS3, Vita)

dont be ignorant this is nothing new in this industry everybody sells there consoles at a loss except nintendo because they cant afford to. the 3ds is the only console they have ever done this with and if they didnt cut the price it would have ended badly.

"Will be supported for another 10 years"

again dont be ignorant its well known that the ps2 usually recieves crappy multiplatform titles other than sports games and those damn things still sell about 2,000 a week

the vita has only been out for about a month give it time before you assume the worst(even tho i think it will fail too) and the ps3 isnt a flop you and i both know this.and im pretty sure you know that sony can afford to lose that money.

The first 15 years of gaming would like a word with you. And you do realize that it was priced the same as the Vita...and it still sold better, right?

Uh...it stopped getting those "crappy multiplatform" titles back in 2008, when Spiderman: Web of Shadows came out.

"by the way when you dominate the last two generations of consoles you tend to keep the department that did the dominating"

It sold only around 425k units on Christmas holiday. That is dismal sales, compared to the 3DS's released in FEBURARY with NO "good games" (except maybe professor layton) and it still outsold it by almost 275k units. (Also, these figures are for JAPAN ONLY before you go pouting about the 3DS's sales being worldwide.)

From a units sold perspective, the PS3 wasn't a flop at all. From a profit perspective, it's a nightmare.

It also isn't the fact that Sony can't lose that money, it's the fact that whenever a branch becomes very, very unprofitable, companies tend to cut branches off.

Also, good job on trying to make your post unquoteable.
