i noticed this at this years E3 too. The only games i saw that did this were New Super Mario Bros U, and Tank! Tank! Tank!
None of ther other games showed Gameplay on the tablet. I was really hoping for Ninja Gaiden 3, Assassin's creed 3, and Pikmin 3 (Wow all 3's) to be playble on the Wii U gamepad without the TV needed
I am the foot. I do not like you. You smother me with socks and shoes, then step on me thousands of times a day.

We foot will rebel one day.

I hope devs use it in most of their games, especially since I have a little sister.

Games that do will have like a "off-tv play" feature on the gameboxes

I thought that was the point of the tv button on the tablet.

It's a built in feature of the hardware.

Nintendo already demod that feature last year. This year, they used their time to showcase other things.

Consider the "tv button" an input switch.

Instead of transmitting to tv, it transmits to gamepad.

Easy. Done.

Developers don't have to work this feature in. It's already there. Built in. A developer would have to work mighty hard to disable this feature and remove gamer choice.

Don't worry about it.

This exact function is what started the wii u concept to begin with.

Its up to developers. They have to make their game play that way. If they want their hud to stay on the condtrollers that's the way they develop their game.

I imagine it will be in most games, as it is a hardware feature, not a game feature. I think it's safe to say that if a game supports play with the Wii U Pro Controller, it supports play directly off of the Gamepad screen. So from that we can assume that Batman Arkham City, Darksiders 2, Ninja Gaiden, Mass Effect 3 and whatever else I'm forgetting will all be playable on the Gamepad, as they're ports of 360/PS3 games.

I thought that was the point of the tv button on the tablet.

Isn't that for opening up the remote feature for turning on/off the TV and changing channels?

if theyre gonna make a game for the sole use of gamepad playing then why not just make it for a handheld?

The devs might take that use that feature.

Wasn't that the whole point of the console? I definitely think it should be a feature, so it'd be disappointing to see any developer remove it.

What we do is, if we ever need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
We put the volume up to eleven. One louder.

I feel like the gamepad would be better utilized in the zombie U approach where you look at the TV and then the gamepad is completely different to add extra content and fully immerse you in the game, to take every game and press the TV button and play just on the gamepad seems like a waste to me, for nintendo to put that as the sole feature of the gamepad for super mario bros U just seems pretty lazy, what differentiates it from super mario bros 2 for my 3ds?

The ability to play only on the wii u game pad is called "off-TVplay" and yes its only up to dev to include it or not.
A logo will clearly be on the wii u game boxes compatble with this function.

The Tv button on the wii u gamepad is to switch from game mode to tvremote mode

And what about the first rumours we heard a while ago, about the ability to see someone else playing?
Id lve to watch videogames on my wii u like ont stitch tv !
And it be great to play online with a friend, and seeing his game or his face on the wii gamepad!
