Switching to gamepad is simply to allow play when the preferred big screen is not available. So there would be an obvious concession there. Therefore, there would be a concession in control scheme as well. So you'd be lacking the spectacular wii u experience while playing on the pad, but you'd still have a great experience and the same experience competing consoles do and will provide.
By wanting "almost" every game to be available on gamepad only, you automatically doom some to not be playable at all when the tv is otherwise occupied.
Mass Effect 3 gameplay + all wii u games will support free tv mode
