unfortunately, I can pretty much guarantee that a lot of next gen games will still target 30 fps.

I kind of expected something like this to occur. I feel that few developers will be able to utilize 60FPS 1080p properly while most developers' games will target 30FPS 1080p.

Great share, thanks. I personally think this is quite common sense to be honest. Developers want better textures and higher poly counts and more players in online lobbies. How could next gen allow that to happen at the same time as higher frame rate and resolution

30fps looks kind of choppy usually. 60fps just looks more professional.

While movies run at a lower fps and we don't tend to complain, they use motion blur, I hear.

But if the framerate dips at 30fps, it will probably be more noticeable than the framerate dipping at 60fps.

I don't mind 30fps as long as it's not a racing game. There I prefer 60fps if possible. In other games I don;t mind 30fps as long as it is nice and steady and Visuals get a nice bump in it's place :)

He also stated that RAGE would run at 60fps with those amazing textures. No, the game runs at 60fps with garbage textures.

FPS really depends on the game. Certain types of games will shine more at a high FPS than others. Also you should notice a difference between 30-60fps, especially if your playing a First Person Shooter, or a Racing game of some sort. The human eye doesn't start having an issue recognizing FPS differences until close to 100FPS.

It is a big speed difference between 30 and 60 in a racing game

I certainly would rather have 30fps 1080p than 60fps 720p, in arcade racing games. The extra detail can really have a beneficial effect on dodging other cars, especially when performing oncoming.

Post processing can do wonders to make a game feel fast, very impressed with Need for Speed Most Wanted on that account. Sure it slows down the controls as well, but if the game is designed around those limitations, then who am I to argue?

I highly suspect Wii U will mostly be 720p though, at least for multi-platform titles ported from the next Xbox and Playstation (where they hopefully will be running 1080p).

Higher or lower?
I am REALLY hoping they will target 1080p, but I fear 720p will remain the target.

Their hopes are higher, sky high. Reality is pointing lower. Crytek says its not happening like ps360 happened.

The next sysyems arent going to be competing with PC's visuals when they launch, the consoles ate focusing on a different direction than hardware power.

If its any bright news, a fairly reliable leak about playstations next system says '1080p 3d 60fps, no problem'.. At the expense of a dramatic increase in scene complexity

This just confirms the jump from Xbox 360/PS3 to 720/PS4 is going to be subtle and NOTHING like the drastic graphic improvements that we saw from Xbox 1/PS2 to 360/PS3.

In other words, ports from 720/PS4 to Wii U will be slight if any difference at all. Who knows, the Wii U could have a better GPU or similar to the ones in 720/PS4.

there is games on pc, even with sli or cf, that get less than 60 fps... so basically depends the game you playing.

I personally dont like low fps games running in an amd gpu... NVIDIA got a technology in their chipsets, even with low fps, looks smooth. In amd you see lots of tearing...

Or they're going for 2k resolutions.

I remember when 60fps was standard.
The quest for brown and grey realism seems to be hacking it down.
