But it's not MOTHER 4. I'm thinking maybe a compilation for the 3DS.

Just now on Twitter Shigesato Itoi posted a few things about MOTHER series developments. Here’s a quick translation:

Since it’s now okay to blurt this out, here goes: the “MOTHER republication” thing I mentioned briefly before is making progress.

And then:

It’s not “(MOTHER) 4″, though! This has to do with making “MOTHER” playable. I can’t give out any details just yet, but I do at least need to say that it isn’t 4.

What do you all think he's doing?

i would think its a remake of the games without copyrighted material (main reason why it wasnt on wii vc)

So this is confirmed, without a doubt, to be Shigesato Itoi's Twitter? If it is, that is amazing to hear. I have Mother 3 on my PSP, but it just doesn't work right playing it on an emulator. Even a single-two frame lag is really quite horrendous for the musical battles.

Very likely. If Itoi is refering to a Mother re-release, I don't see what else this could be... besides a more restricted re-release. That being a Virtual Console release of Earthbound and nothing more.

yeah, but it was good music. Also, Nintendo of Japan was really stubborn with changing the music: that's why they didn't put Earthbound on the VC.

It would be neat to see a remake of the games in the style of how Dragon Quest 7 looked with 2D sprites in a 3D world.
