New Super Mario Bros U is a great game and has many traits just like it's predecessors; gameplay, lasting appeal, game quality, sound... I'm not sure on how to fault this game and since you have stated that it seems unpolished, unfinished and unimaginative can you clarify this further?

Maybe I am being unfair as we have not played much of the game at all but my initial impression was that it was lazy - let me explain.

Mario Bros 3 blew me away
Super Mario World blew me away
Mario 64 blew me away
Mario Galaxy blew me away

So what I am saying is that every Nintendo console had a Mario game that changed the way we see this type of game (apart from Mario sunshine and the gamecube)

To me this is Super Mario Bros Wii in HD and that's it and I was expecting so much more.

By the way I have got my son to try some more Nintendo Land games and he has found 3 he likes; Zelda, Metroid and Pikmin. Zelda in particular had a great graphic style and we had great fun playing this together. To me these 3 seem head and shoulders over the other games and my attitude to the title has softened somewhat!

I think once the developers, get into designing games for the wii u we will see a massive jump in quality and depth.

The. Your expectations of NSMB U were way higher then they should have been. That being said like I already said its the best 2D Mario platform game since Super Mario World on the SNES. Also its totally ridiculous to compare it to the 3D Mario games like Galaxy 1 and 2, Super Mario Sunshine or Super Mario 64 even. I suggest if you're disappointed by it then sell it and move on.

I am not going to sell it! even a less than impressive Mario game is still a must purchase! Maybe I am disappointed because my son seems to have lost interest and I was quite looking forward to playing it with him.

Before Christmas his list to Santa had Mario U at the top but he only played it for about an hour and then went on to Skylanders and that was it - has not touched it since.

In a lot of ways Skylanders seems very next-gen as a concept especially for the under 10s. There is something very clever in combining collecting toys, trading cards and a simple RPG, especially as the toys have an RFID chip in them to store stats etc.I can imagine a lot of the top software houses are kicking themselves for not having come up with that idea! multiple revenue streams from the same franchise - kerching!

Yeah, I still play my Xbox and PS3 but really enjoy being able to play Mario Bros U on the gamepad when the kids are hogging the others. Just think how cool Zelda, Monster Hunter and the next Mario Galaxy type ga,e will be on this console. Awesome.

That would be awesome, i'm really looking forward to Aliens, i would be happy if they just put the radar on the gamepad, that would be brilliant and that Lego City Undercover looks decent to along with Pikimin, its shaping up to be a good year!
