#209931 What Nintendo OS now needs to do to compete

Posted by Penguin101 on 22 May 2013 - 12:58 AM

1) Voice Commands/voice recognition yes it's stupid, I'd far much just press a few keys on the touchpad, but you'll get people complaining that the Wii U can't handle it, Nintendo just need to add it.

2) Face recognition login, again this is hit or miss, it's far easier just for me to tap my user login than wait for the Wii U's SD webcam and processor to recognise my face. I have trouble enough teaching my PC's webcam to recognise my face for login, and that's more powerful than the PS4 and XBO!

3) Further streamlining of OS - yes the OS runs fast now, it's adequate and I have no complaints on the speed HOWEVER the more improvements that come the more blocked up it's going to get I presume. So keep on cutting down the amount of code required to process certain tasks would be a good idea, either to speed things up cutting the loading times by half again or just maintaining the speeds we have now while improving on what the OS can do.

4) Sleep function. I'm very confident the Wii U can handle this. Again it's useless but adding useless things in competition with the PS4 and XBO OSs is important because people in general are fickle when it comes to buying products and brands they're like sheep, and can be easily swayed by a single trivial point. Even with the 3DS you can close the lid and resume playing later, I don't see a reason why Nintendo can't do this, especially with dedicated RAM for OS and the game. It's basically a glorified version of pausing the game and cutting the TV and gamepad outputs.

4) Video content sharing - this I don't need and I doubt the Wii U can handle unless Nintendo used cloud innovations.

5) Do their own thing. Nintendo are great at doing this, yes it's important to keep the OS up to date with other console's but it has to keep its Unique Selling Point (USP) and hey should be pushing for something that no console OSs do so far.

What do you guys think?

#207248 Wild Nintendo E3 Predictions

Posted by Penguin101 on 15 May 2013 - 01:44 AM

So just for fun, what Predictions are you making for Nintendo's Megaton announcement(s).

They can be actually what you want to see (let us know which ones) or just absolutely silly like a couple of these.

1) Miyamoto arrives with Iwata's head on a pike, as he and Reggie do a tribal dance around Iwata's corpse, this not only marks a new leader of Nintendo but also introduces a brand new horror themed first person game.

2) Iwata appears next to Mario Luigi, Sonic and Tails announcing that after all current and cross generation games currently in production Nintendo will be absorbing Sega's publishing. Some of Sega's publishing team will be working on Nintendo games and some of Nintendo's publishing team will be working on Sega games as a cross fertilisation plan. Sega and the Sega brand will remain a development company, but a first party development company. Again some Sega development staff will be allowed to work on Nintendo games and some key Nintendo staff will be working on Sega games in order to cross generate ideas into each-other's IPs. (PS: Something I'd actually like to see) As a parody note Mario, Luigi, Sonic  and Tails all act Iwata's words through interpretive mime! :P

3) Iwata announces a partnership with Google to bring the Google Play store to the Wii U. Selected apps compatible with the system such as Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies, and Draw Something will be available at launch. Google will be providing its chromium source code to improve the web browsing experience with the inclusion of Flash support. Google in turn will provide an app to allow people to play games that allow "Off TV mode" to play on the Android operating system along with designing an official Android based Miiverse App. (what I wouldn't mind seeing - based on rumors)

4) Nintendo recreates the Unreal 4 elemental demo using Nintendo characters using different art styles including Photorealistic (at the beginning) as a short sharp f-you to Epic Games. B)  (actually I'd like to see this too, it'd be hilarious)

5) Reggie comes on stage naked, oiled up and says to camera "My body is ready, is yours?" before the Nintendo Direct introduction video starts.

6) An hour long Nintendo direct with Reggie recreating the torture scene of reservoir dogs with the CEO of EA tied to the chair....

#205706 Shadow of the Eternals

Posted by Penguin101 on 10 May 2013 - 05:55 AM

All I can say is tesselation, very sharp textures and models, lovely lighting, fire and lava effects, and that's in alpha stages.....

Gameplay though is yet to be judged, I hope Nintendo buy the game and fund it themselves and rename it Eternal Darkness: Shadow of the Eternals

#203014 Getting a bit fed up with UK prices Asda £149.99 Tesco £139.99

Why is it cheaper than the 3DS??!?!?!? It makes no sense!

#199650 I think stores like GAME are Wii U biast

Posted by Penguin101 on 25 April 2013 - 02:38 AM

Lots of GAME stores around my area don't even stock Need for Speed Most Wanted: U and barely have any Wii U games, and when I enquire (despite them being in stock online) they said it's on their list as not released yet.

They could easily expand their Wii U selection , even with the the smaller games library, no wonder a lot of publishers aren't getting many sales as retailers aren't stocking Wii U games. Hell my local ASDA (Walmart for you american types) don't stock any Wii Us or Wii U games. There's no advertising saying "Nintendo's next gen console now in stock!" Nothing....

Either Nintendo are embarrassed here in the UK about their console, or retailers have just completely given up.

Although I must say the staff of my local GAME are all just  waiting for E3. They all keep on saying "once Nintendo show at E3 we'll be having trouble not having enough Wii U's" so maybe they're just being numb nuts, biting bullets and waiting until E3 to start increasing their Wii U section?

Do you think retailers are biased? Do you think it's retailers panicking due to negative press? Do you think a lot of the negative press is paid for by Microsoft and Sony? Do you think there's anything Nintendo can do about damage control?

I'm trying not to make this sound like a Nintendo is doomed topic, and more a "pissed at retailers, Nintendo's marketing staff, and the media" topic.

#199104 Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Retextured in High-Res Skyward Sword Graphics

Posted by Penguin101 on 24 April 2013 - 02:09 AM

I agree TP graphics are dated, and right now, SS's are better. BUT, The TP graphics style is waaayyyyy better than the weird impressionist style in SS. Link looked like woman in SS, zelda looked like her face had been smashed with a hot frying pan at birth, groose wire a bit too much makeup for a tough guy, and the old woman had hair that acted like a pendulum. SS character models were WAY worse than TP IMO.

I think TP artstyle, but with more realistic character models, no crazy features like http://youtu.be/jaulsM5wYqY?t=1m3s

Keep that to art-styles like SS, OOT and Windwaker

#198982 You know what Wii U needs exclusively?

Posted by Penguin101 on 23 April 2013 - 04:41 PM

What about Alone in The Dark?

Yeah, although all the new ones suck, they need to go back to basics with the original one.

Hell just take the original, improve the graphics by a million percent and you've got GOTY 2014!

#198651 Nintendo expected to announce second straight loss Tuesday as Wii U flops

Posted by Penguin101 on 23 April 2013 - 05:42 AM

Thats all I hear it seems lol Other consoles get games, Wii U owners get "coming soon" and "wait till E3"

It's a launch console, I don't see many launch titles for PS4, I expect Sony and Microsoft to sell probably 3 to 6 million during the Winter due to hype (like people bought Wii Us) and then they'll be a dramatic slump in hardware sales until after E3 2014 and Sony and Microsoft have more games developed.

We wont really have a better judgement of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft Until January 2015 where all three consoles have had time settle, and games start to become "next gen only" titles, and those titles are made at the same time as each other, rather than the current fiasco of either delaying a  launch of a game to fit in the Wii U or forgetting about a port completely and working on Wii U games next time.

Yes I'm annoyed at the situation too, but not much I can do.

I remember one kid on CVG who traded in his 3DS just a day before LTTP2 was announced, and now severely regrets it.

If Nintendo doesn't deliver a stunning E3 and basically fails to destroy Microsoft and Sony more powerful console events THEN it may be a time to consider trading it in. However everything points to a hella ton of game exclusives coming to Wii U, causing more publishers to start porting multiplats over too. Good things come to those who wait. :)
