#74916 Sakurai - Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS will 'change direction', dual support...

Posted by Fig on 26 April 2012 - 04:27 AM

I hope that this doesn't mean a watered-down console version. I don't own a 3DS so I hope that won't prevent me from gaining important content like extra characters and stages that would only be available via a Wii U / 3DS connection.

Maybe it could be kind of like Mario Kart Wii where if you have a save file from Super Mario Galaxy you can unlock Rosalina right away instead of having to play though various championships first.

^ This. SSB Wii U had better not suffer because of connectivity with a handheld. Honestly, I dont see any benefit to this strategy other than cross platform online play. I'm not a tech guy, but it seems like the Wii U version would be held back graphically if there is cross platform play. I'm down for being able to transfer data and what not, but I will not be happy if the Wii U versiion suffers in any way because duel support is "key" to anything.

#73314 Leviathyn Article Claiming Several Yet Unseen rumors about Wii U - source ?

Posted by Fig on 20 April 2012 - 06:16 AM

These aren't new rumors. This is a list of what this person thinks will happen at E3 based on previous rumors. The writer states:

"Take[sic] everything that we’ve heard, I’ve come up with what I believe to be what is going to be revealed this June. The Wii U is in for some changes."

So really, it's no different than you or me posting predictions to our website/blog based on what we've heard.

#72564 Excellent article about Nintendo's financial "situation"

Posted by Fig on 16 April 2012 - 01:45 PM

It mention's Nintendo's previous end of generation sales, various big costs that will payoff in a few years, how the strong Yen hurts, and demonstrates the difference between Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft through their Mission Statements.

A company's Mission Statement says a lot about the culture and values of that company.

FINALLY, A VIDEO GAME JOURNALIST THAT UNDERSTANDS BUSINESS! (This excites me because of my business background).

I wish I had a husband. :(
I'll never find a man at this rate.

Welcome!

Well, it's a long shot, but you're on a forum with a bunch of people with similar interests. You've just gotta make sure they're not 15, lol.

#68117 What apps do you want on the WiiU

Posted by Fig on 26 March 2012 - 07:14 AM

Hmmm, a nice "family-game" app to have would be Pictionary Wii U.

You could draw on the controller, while it is being displayed on the TV in real time. I know that feature was shown on the E3 video, but they could make it an interactive game.

#66670 What is your favorite gaming system?

Posted by Fig on 17 March 2012 - 06:12 AM

I think a lot of people's favorite consoles have to do with  when they grew up. For me, it comes down to SNES and N64. I was 10 or 11 when N64 came out, and it is my favorite console of all time. I was old enough to play and thoroughly enjoy "thinking games" like Ocarina of Time and still young enough to just have fun playing games (ie explore/goof around on Mario 64 instead of simply looking for the next star). I havn't THOROUGHLY enjoyed as many games on a single console as I did on the N64.

Super Mario 64
Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask
Battle Tanx: Global Assault
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Super Smash Bros.
Madden 64
Star Fox 64
NBA Hangtime
Mario Party series
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Mario Kart 64
Donkey Kong 64
Wave Race 64
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
Road Rash 64
NFL Blitz 2000
WCW/NWO World Tour and Revenge
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron

N64 had a boat load of epic single player and multiplayer experiences, the latter of which puts it above the SNES, IMO. But seriously, all of the Nintendo consoles have a special place. I love them all. This gen is the first gen I owned something else, in addition to a Wii (360). 360 has good games and all but it's just not the same as owning a Nintendo console. I can't quite put my finger on it.

In closing, I will say this: All Nintendo systems have that "wow" factor the first time you play it (in my experience). Super Mario Bros. on NES, Super Mario World on SNES, Mario 64/Wave Race on N64, Luigi's Mansion on Gamecube, and Wii Sports on Wii.

#66580 Hidden meaning behind being a Nintendo Fanboy...(maybe just me)

Posted by Fig on 16 March 2012 - 01:39 PM

I feel you man. I don't have kids yet but  my wife can beat anyone on Mario Kart.

How are we going to afford all of these awesome games... especially when we have kids?!?! Its a great time to be a Nintendo fan.

#66443 No Xbox 720 at E3 2012

Posted by Fig on 15 March 2012 - 04:40 PM

http://mynintendonew...intendo-laughs/

Nintendo has a tremendous oppurtunity to dominate the e3 headlines and, if they play their cards right, get a huge headstart on Microsoft and Sony next gen. Thoughts?

PS I bet Nintendo is secretly dancing and singing this:

And guy with Reggie, Iwata, and Miyamoto dancing in the car for a sig, please respond so I can watch them dance to one of the best 90s dance songs. Thanks.

#66153 possibilities of $50 loss on every wii u.

Posted by Fig on 13 March 2012 - 04:41 PM

It's maybe a bump in power, but I think part of it is that they don't want another 3DS pricing fiasco. They said they won't make the sames mistakes twice, and starting at a "bargain" price would avoid the overpricing mistake. They would rather take a 15%-ish loss (assuming MSRP 300, 350 to build) than give away Ambassador software again.

Which leads me to another point, they will not only make up for their losses on hardware with retail games, but also accessories, and downloadable content (which has a good profit margin). It is risky, but I guarantee you they calculated everything on a per unit basis, i.e the average Wii U Owner will spend x dollars on retail games, x dollars on accessories, and x dollars on downloadable content. They used their figures to come up with a price point that software/feature purchases will make up for the hardware loss.

#66152 Zelda Demo 15% of What WiiU is capable of?

Posted by Fig on 13 March 2012 - 04:20 PM

just note though, that 10% only of wii u's capability has been shown doesnt just refer to power, it refers to all features and online and graphics put together, so its not that the wii u's full graphical potential is 10 times better than the zelda wii u demo, (although thats not to say that definitely isnt the case, i have no clue if thats possible)

^ This.

#65920 WiiU commercialing IDEAS

Posted by Fig on 12 March 2012 - 12:53 PM

Open with two-three 20 something guys hanging out in a room, some short, clever dialogue(something to the affect of "whats up"... "This is what's up!") leading to a 30-45 second sizzle reel featuring all the games they can reasonably fit. They should show only gameplay of their "core" games (AC3, Darksiders 2, Batman AC, etc.), split screen gameplay/interaction with their interactive games (ex: Ghost Recon Online), as well as their casual pack in game. They must end the reel with their big first party system seller. Show guys faces that look in awe.

Now you're playing with power. Wii U.<---- only words on the screen, not narrated.

Any slogan would work but the original is my favorite and fits the message Nintendo is trying to convey to gamers. I also like Get N or Get Out!

Its a generic idea, but I think it would be effective.

Yeah... I didn't post this for a few days because I assumed someone had all ready posted it... I realized today that nobody had done it, so I figured I'd get the ball rolling. I figure most people that visit this fine site would be interested.
