#136512 DO NOT BUY DIGITAL DOWNLOADS!

Posted by Inland on 22 November 2012 - 06:11 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Nintendo digital downloads are really goofy. It says in the Wii U for the Wii transfer that all my wiiware can be redownloaded later. So, just like the original 3DS 2gb to 3DS XL 4gb transfer, I reformatted my system with the intent of just redownloading my bought software instead of transfering SD card data around back and forth multiple times from Wii systems and my PC. (I mean, Why would I want to swap out my brand new 4gb 3DS XL card for my old 2gb card?)

Figured it would be the same for the Wii since it says that all wiiware can be redownloaded...but, Umm...Now I can't download the Wiiware games.

#136525 What game should I get?

I can only recommend Ninja Gaiden 3 so far, but it is quite difficult.

It's his job to talk the talk, and our job to support him if he is to walk the walk.
Forget companies like Ubisoft (lol)

We need a true licensing epidemic. If they want to release it, let them release it. Worked for NES,SNES, Saturn(JPN), PS1, PS2, and all that matters for 360/PS3. Just let games come out, no matter how bad they are. Those small bad games are what become sleeper hits.
If the game is in bad taste, consumers can decide on their own, they don't need a Nintendo Nanny. The Nintendo Nanny is what ruined Nintendo to begin with.

EXACTLY! i expect Wii U to get all the COD games next gen... but i dont consider them hardcore. GTA is the biggest game for nintendo to get right now. thats step 1 in my opinion... without that game Wii U cant consider itself 3rd party friendly.

Like a dog you need to smack them in the nose and say "Stop It!".
It's not GTA5, but everything. They need to let everyone release games. If the sales are bad the publishers or developers can take the heat. Nintendo should not be the Nanny, let the freakin' consumers decide once again, just like the SNES when Nintendo was worth their weight in salt.

Nintendo needs the smack in the nose, and hard. They haven't understood gamers 100% in almost 20 years. Pretty Sad.

Dear Nintendo, why was the SNES/Super Famicom good? Because you made a console and then didn't meddle in it!
You meddled with everything after, and it failed because of your involvement. Your involvement drives consumers AWAY!
Stop it. Bad Dog!

The best way that you can keep the Wii U a "Good Dog" is to not screw up. You know how to... not screw up? Don't get involved. You do not know best, you really don't.
Let it be, Nintendo. Please, just let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

Nintendo just needs to climb down off of their high horse. They promised greatness for 64, GC and Wii but failed. Sure, we got Conkers bad Fur day on N64, PN03 on GC, and No More Heroes on Wii.
We don't want exceptions, we want no filtering at all.

They need to sit idle and let 3rd parties release whatever they want, good or bad. It worked for the SNES, and it worked for the PS1. I think there was more filthy trash on the Famicom & SNES than any other console when I look back on it. Let the game companies release their consoles, and let the game companies release games. The great will be heralded as such, and the bad will go down in shame.

Also from what Im hearing it looks like Reggie is pushing for the Mature games to get put on Wii U.

Lol, Reggie? Reggie seems like a very nice guy, but he was pushed on us. He was a sub-par speaker, and out of nowhere promoted to president. Even though I like the man, I'm not fond of puppets.
He landed a great job, and I think it's more our job to help him out than his job to help us. Nintendo of Japan shoved Reggie into big shoes to fill out of nowhere. Reggie is very relatable, so all you can do is laugh and cheer him on when put in awkward situations.

Not a big Reggie fan. he says all the right things but its starting to become just PR to me.

Reggie was a PR man, a new one at that in the big scene. They forced him to be president out of nowhere. The dude can't really pass up a sweet job forced on him. Nintendo thought he was a relatable guy, and he really is.
I don't know if he has any say yet, but new blood is what Nintendo needs. When a random PR man becomes president overnight, it's a hard pill to swallow for fans. Nintendo bailed out, and promoted what they had on hand.
Is Reggie any good? IDK, but I'm happy to take ANYTHING considering the Pre-Reggie days at NOA in the last decade.

I agree, getting GTA on Wii U would be a big step for Nintendo.

We can all help Nintendo get strong 3rd party support by purchasing all the "hardcore" 3rd party titles like ZombiU, COD, Ninja Gaiden and Darksiders 2 over titles like Just Dance4, Your Shape Fitness evolved and Rabbids Land.

Ninja Gaiden by Tecmo in Torrance California may be small 3rd party by a hair, but in general we've seen no hardcore releases yet. While I'm not a fan myself, Bayonetta 2 is the big third party title to keep an eye on.
Zombie U = UBIsoft, not hardcore, COD = not hardcore, Darksiders=not hardcore. Popular doesn't mean hardcore, just mean Nintendo constantly avoids popular sales in NA.

I hope we get good support, Wii U is a worthy system

All systems are worthy, once released we are in the hands of the players. It's all down to licensing and releases whether we get the best or not.

#137669 Noisy Disc Drive

Posted by Inland on 25 November 2012 - 12:42 AM in Wii U Hardware

Wow, you're right. Discs never stop spinning unless the console is powered off. Same went for regular Wii discs as well.
When a foreign media such as a blu ray movie is inserted, the disc drive stops spinning once the console deems it unrecognized.

I'm sure Nintendo will address this with a firmware update ASAP. There is no need for the disc to be spinning until infinity like this.

For now I guess I would advise everyone to eject all discs when not in use to save from unnecessary wear and tear on the drive.

Since apparently we as consumers are the Beta testers, please contact Nintendo about this issue. They of course can't resolve a problem that they aren't aware of without our feedback.

#136531 A Definitive list of online Wii U titles? Miiverse chat = Nintendo Network logo?

Posted by Inland on 22 November 2012 - 07:33 PM in Wii U Games and Software

just look at the back of the box...... it tells you what it has online means it connects to the internet, thats exactly what miiverse does, for example, new super mario bros u uses miiverse and it has dlc, both listed on the back, its not hard to flip a case over before buying it

It's not that hard to flip a game over at a casual gamestore, but it is hard if you don't live in a major city and are forced to shop at a major retailer like Walmart where it takes one at least 20 minutes to track down an employee to unlock the glass case. I didn't even realize the back of the games said anything. So once again, NN logo on the front is useless and deceptive.

NN logo means nothing besides check the back of the box to see if the NN logo on the front means anything besides Miiverse? Still seems like terrible marketing at it's best. Why not have an online logo for the front?
Once again, Seems terribly simple for Nintendo to use either the Miiverse logo or NN logo.

#136504 A Definitive list of online Wii U titles? Miiverse chat = Nintendo Network logo?

Posted by Inland on 22 November 2012 - 05:55 PM in Wii U Games and Software

the nintendo newtwork logo is for miiverse, sorry :/

Really? I could have sworn my 3DS copy of Kid Icarus has the Nintendo Network logo and has nothing to do with the Miiverse that I'm aware of.

So is there a list of games with online play out there?

#136514 A Definitive list of online Wii U titles? Miiverse chat = Nintendo Network logo?

Posted by Inland on 22 November 2012 - 06:19 PM in Wii U Games and Software

no, nintendo land only has miiverse, the logo isnt just for miiverse. the logo means it has some form of internet connectivity, miiverse is included in this

Ouch, doesn't...everything... on Wii U have Miiverse? I mean, it's just a psuedo online Wii U forum in the form of 3DS Swap Note. Not a game feature at all, at least not any more than my posting on this forum right now is a dedicated game feature. Heck, the Miiverse icon is located less than 1" away from the internet icon that can bring me right here.

I can see why I was confused, Nintendo needs to drop the NN logo from titles that only feature "Miiverse" for online play or at least give a disclaimer. At this rate every title will have the NN logo, online game or not.

#136520 A Definitive list of online Wii U titles? Miiverse chat = Nintendo Network logo?

Posted by Inland on 22 November 2012 - 06:32 PM in Wii U Games and Software

no, it only has miiverse if the developers make it, and its specifically set up towards miiverse where it will have notifications come up about it, i dont think most do that

I guess I just don't get it. How is Miiverse an online thing that involves developers anymore than notifications on everything else? So if a developer pays nintendo an extra "X ammount" in licensing fees they get the NN logo on the box-art and a miiverse forum tab even if the game is 100% offline?

This seems like a bad marketeting problem more than anything. When I see a Nintendo game with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Network logo, I assumed it had online gameplay (which it always did). The Miiverse truly is an all encompassing Wii U console message board feature, not that much relevant to individual software enough to boast on a box.

If miiverse is included, the NN logo means nothing. If the NN logo means nothing, how will we know what games can be played online? Are we supposed to see the NN logo on a Wii U game at a store, drive home and research the game online to see if it can be played online, and then drive back to the store to buy it? Really defeats the point of the NN logo if you ask me.
This guessing game simply can't fly over well with both the casual and hardcore market consumers that haven't done *serious homework* for any title in question before purchase once seeing it on store shelves.

Customer: "The box says NN, is it online?"
Store Clerk: "We don't know, buy the game and then ask the Miiverse"

#136496 A Definitive list of online Wii U titles? Miiverse chat = Nintendo Network logo?

Posted by Inland on 22 November 2012 - 05:33 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Is there a definitive list of online Wii U titles? I was a quite disappointed to see the Nintendo Network logo on Nintendo Land game box, yet it has no online gameplay that I am aware of. I certainly hope that Nintendo doesn't consider the Miiverse an "online feature" worthy enough to stamp that NN logo on the cover for individul games? I think a Miiverse logo would be much better suited for such instances to diffuse confusion amongst consumers looking to make an in-store purchase decision.

Edit: "(Miiverse chat = Nintendo Network logo?)" added to thread title.

#137263 Which games do NOT include Club Nintendo points?

Posted by Inland on 24 November 2012 - 01:32 AM in Wii U Games and Software

NOTE: All retail games are eligible for registration surveys, post play surveys, and intend to buy bonuses.

How can you get those surveys for retail games that come without a Club Nintendo registration card?

#137719 Which games do NOT include Club Nintendo points?

Oh silly me. I meant to say that all retail games that come with a Club Nintendo code are eligible for those surveys, sorry for the misunderstanding.

No worries, I saw unboxings on Youtube that verified the lack of registration cards. I appreciate your taking the time to help. :)

I just picked up a copy of Tekken from Gamestop, and it was the gutted copy thats used on the display shelf. There was no points card present, was there supposed to be any? The only other game I have is Ninja Gaiden and it did include points.

Thanks guys

#137773 Nintendo Land freezes

Posted by Inland on 25 November 2012 - 12:47 AM in Wii U Hardware

Sold off Nintendo Land quick while resale was decent. The 100% lack of online play left me with no reason to keep it.
Wish I bough a basic console and spent the rest on reasonable storage.

#137260 Digital Downloads should be cheaper, retail more expensive.

Posted by Inland on 24 November 2012 - 01:24 AM in Wii U Games and Software

What do you all think about this brave new digital move by Nintendo and the pricing? I will start off by saying that I am a collector at heart, and the digital business rarely gets a cent out of my pocket. But, don't mistake that my disinterest doesn't mean that I am against the digital practice. I think the larger the gap in digital vs physical pricing should be noticeable. I've already come to find that physical 3rd party Wii U releases do not seem to have Club Nintendo points whilst the digital downloads do. What I would love is if the digital versions were a common $20 price difference from retail. This would drop the price for the casual gamer, and instantly create a collectors market for physical releases without the need of a special Limited Edition release. I'm certain that most of you have your jaws on the floor thinking that I am insane, but I don't think it's crazy that digital should come at a significant discount, or as such retail should come at a significant price increase over digital. Somebody needs to eat the price of manufacturing costs, packaging, and shipping of retail copies.
I don't need any club Nintendo points for my retail copy, if the retail copy on my display shelf is prize enough.

#137265 Digital Downloads should be cheaper, retail more expensive.

Posted by Inland on 24 November 2012 - 01:39 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Simple answer retailers hold too much power, so Nintendo doesn't want to upset retailers by stealing business from them by making downloads cheaper.

I think retailers could do well with digital download cards. Seems to work well for cell phone companies at retail venues.

#128050 What does Bayonetta 2 mean for Wii U? (and LOL?)

Posted by Inland on 12 November 2012 - 04:46 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Yep. The fixed Ninja Gaiden 3 release with the inclusion of Tecmo's Dead or Alive's Ayane character and Bayonetta 2 in the Wii U launch window surely represent some new brave form of Nintendo.

All they need to do now is reform the international Club Nintendo stores to reflect the awesome Japanese exclusive shop items and I'll accept that "Heck" has officially frozen over. :)

#128039 What does Bayonetta 2 mean for Wii U? (and LOL?)

Posted by Inland on 12 November 2012 - 04:01 AM in Wii U Games and Software

What does the Bayonetta Wii U exclusive release mean to the gaming world as a whole? I played the Bayonetta demo on 360 awhile back and never gave the game much thought. Seemed like it had double jump, and a weird middle-aged teacher looking witch protagonast. The shooting was somewhat like the Capcom game titled Devil May Cry.
Fast forwad to now, this title appears to have caused a huge uproar in the gaming community for being a Wii U release. Does a middle aged witch really mean all that much to the gaming balance? Will this exclusive risque title change the public view on Nintendo's post SNES staunch standards? Last I remeber, Conkers Bad Fur Day (N64), PN03 (GC) and No More Heroes (Wii) went into the sleeping night without much notice.

Am I in love with this title? No.
Is it a "good" move for Nintendo? For sure, if they can check their heart at the door and let the market decide they will have the answer in sales numbers good or bad.

I say let the good and the bad flow, the original Sony Playstation had no chance at surviving and we are now faced with...   yep.

Third party titles matter. Lets pray that Nintendo understands why the SNES/Super Famicom was so wonderful. Freedom. Not just a little filtering, but total freedom.

It's not the few key titles that make or break it, but the mass appeal to develop for the "willing" console. As long as consumers and developers both plan for Wii U, the Wii U will flourish in both.

There are classic movies on DVD format, and there is rubbish. The DVD format did not flourish because of said rubish... But hey, it didn't exactly hurt the format either!
If the little guy JVC with "no chance" (VHS) could beat the big bad Sony (Beta), why can't it happen again?

Beta tapes, Super Beta, UMDs...Sony Memory sticks over SD cards?????
I'll stick with the Wii U.
