#131813 Wii U Speed.

Posted by Eggplante! on 17 November 2012 - 10:12 PM in Wii U Hardware

Take a look at my review on Eggplante.com, but overall, the software seems a bit sluggish for my tastes.

#132241 Wii U Review from Eggplante!

Posted by Eggplante! on 18 November 2012 - 10:26 AM in Wii U Hardware

The hardware seems to be extremely powerful so far. Don't forget that the console is creating not only a full 1080p picture, but also a near-720p one as well. Without the screen, the visuals would easily beat out what we've got with 360 and PS3 right now, but I'd personally rather have a few new ways to play than marginally better graphics.

#132243 Wii U Speed.

Posted by Eggplante! on 18 November 2012 - 10:28 AM in Wii U Hardware

The Wii U does feel a bit slow, yeah. The Wii seemed to load games faster and had far more bearable load times. The noise of the machine is also quite ridiculous for a Nintendo console. It is at least as loud as an Xbox 360.

#132247 The size of Wii U games

Posted by Eggplante! on 18 November 2012 - 10:29 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Some great points, Desert Punk, but it's also worth noting that the Wii U will likely feel hindered by its relatively small disc capacity in a few years time. With that said, the laser in the Wii U could probably read dual-layer discs, but whether or not the discs are made is another story.

a 50 GB game...my ISP won't allow that XD

There will undoubtedly be games that will not be available on the eShop. I don't foresee massive titles such as Pikmin 3, the next Zelda, Smash Bros., etc. as downloads.

#132482 Wii U unboxing video thread

Posted by Eggplante! on 18 November 2012 - 01:40 PM in Wii U Hardware

I'm uploading mine now, should be up soon :D

Looking forward to it! IGN always has good coverage of this kind of stuff (and they're usually first), but it's always awesome to see how gamers comment on the unboxing while they do it.

#132486 Wii-U box not sealed

Posted by Eggplante! on 18 November 2012 - 01:43 PM in Wii U Hardware

Hey guys - the confusion seems to be the black versus white unit. We've got a bunch of units floating around here at Eggplante, and our white ones have no protective tape, but the black ones all do. Our guess is that the black one smudges and scratches easier.

In any case, there is nothing to worry about. All the packages are unsealed, as is usually the case with Nintendo hardware, and there is only tape on the black units.

#132852 Wii-U box not sealed

Posted by Eggplante! on 18 November 2012 - 06:54 PM in Wii U Hardware

It seems like Nintendo is going cheap on as much as they reasonably can given the fact that they're losing money on the Wii U (the first time they're losing money on their hardware). Things like the trays in the box aren't colored and numbered like the Wii, there really should be tape on the white Wii Us if the black ones have it, etc. it's very interesting.

#133645 Is your gamepad rattling?

Posted by Eggplante! on 19 November 2012 - 12:58 PM in Wii U Hardware

Its actually not the gyro and accelerometer that is the culprit for most of the noise. The stylus as well as the face buttons make a lot of noise when the GamePad is shaken.

If Apple had made this, the device would have design tolerances so small, the buttons would be perfect. But then Wii U might cost $549, not $349.

#133973 ***EB GAMES HAD 2 DELUXE MODELS TODAY***

Posted by Eggplante! on 19 November 2012 - 06:56 PM in Wii U Hardware

There will be a few shipments trickling into stores over the next few weeks, but they will be in one or two unit shipments and be completely unpredictable. As far as we know, Nintendo is not planning on another mass shipment of Wii U until it can produce a large batch, will not be until after the holiday season. They also like the hype of the machine so there is not a ton of added pressure for Wii U production. It is a big piece of what made the Wii as successful as it was outside of gaming circles while it was widely just a "meh" console within gaming circles.

#133977 How do you transfer games from tv to gamepad?

Posted by Eggplante! on 19 November 2012 - 06:59 PM in Wii U Hardware

While Sonic does support it, keep in mind that some games do not. It would be great to have virtual console games with GamePad support so you can play classics on a quasi-handheld as they were intended (titles like A Link to the Past or Pokemon Red Version) but that doesn't seem to be happening either :(

Thanks for all the support!

I've got articles coming discussing the real pros and cons of the GamePad as a TV remote as well as plenty of game reviews starting tomorrow!

Should I keep posting them up? I don't want anyone to think I'm just here to spam!

#134470 Wii U Pro Controller Review

Posted by Eggplante! on 20 November 2012 - 08:07 AM in Wii U Hardware

nice little review :) .

On a side note, would it be possible to use the Pro controller with pc games, like you're able to do with a 360 controller?

We haven't tested anything yet, but our guess is that the USB cable only draws power, not data. Also, drivers would have to be written to utilize the buttons. You can't connect it wirelessly since it uses a Wii U-specific frequency for data transfer, but theoretically, it would be possible if the USB cable carries data.

#134475 Wii U - Nintendo World Store Launch Event

Posted by Eggplante! on 20 November 2012 - 08:15 AM in Wii U Hardware

I had the chance to meet Reggie at E3 this past June. The first thing he did was whip out his 3DS and say, "Okay, are you Eggplante?"

Really awesome guy. Here are a couple of pics!

Not trolling at all. It'll help by making sure you don't hear it. Just like the user above me said with the sound on, you barely notice anything.

If you guys would like me to stop posting, I have no problem doing that :)

Like I said, I'm here to be a member.

#134943 Nintendo Says It’s Not Making Anymore Wii Games

Posted by Eggplante! on 20 November 2012 - 04:00 PM in General Gaming

I predict seeing a lot of dual-discs coming out in the next year or so. A game with a Wii disc that also has some sort of (very basic) functionality for he GamePad. They'll be transitional games that are made to bridge the gap between Wii and Wii U. They will not be by Nintendo however. There is little reason to buy a Wii U if you can get Nintendo's latest on the Wii. Smash Bros. Wii? Nope. Wii U? Certainly.

#135138 Wii U supply not a issue....Yet.

Posted by Eggplante! on 20 November 2012 - 09:22 PM in Wii U Hardware

Don't forget that Wii demand was very limited only after Black Friday sales that year. The first few weeks was all about initial reception from gamers, but now that the console is out, once news media get hold of the story and put Wii U on all the holiday must have lists, you can bet supply will plummet.

#135139 HDMI picture and AVMulti out

Posted by Eggplante! on 20 November 2012 - 09:25 PM in Wii U Hardware

The Wii U will only support one output of audio/video signal at one time. However, any HDMI port that is built to spec (anything on a TV by a name brand manufacturer) will be able to receive incoming audio. TOSLINK is available in addition to HDMI for devices that support it (some Blu Ray players and other home theatre equipment) but it is not necessary. HDMI is designed to carry both HD video signals as well as full surround audio signals.

#135296 Gamestop screwed my Wii U preorder over!

Posted by Eggplante! on 21 November 2012 - 06:20 AM in General Gaming

In Canada, GameStop (EB Games here) didn't get enough units to fulfill pre-orders. Rather than organize by when people preordered, they decided to do a line-up for people who pre-ordered. I was okay, but some people in line who had pre-ordered in September were beaten out by people who had only pre-ordered a couple of weeks ago. Not the right way to do it.
