#81824 3DS vs Vita in power

Posted by Guest on 30 May 2012 - 07:50 AM in General Gaming

Someone should post off-screen photos of 3DS and Vita games with a decent camera, then you can actually see how much better the Vita games look when being played.

Yep, and post a 3D pic to represent the 3DS, please ;)
Seriously, Vita games aren't the only games that look better in real life.

Masachika Kawata stated they weren't using the 3DS' Full Power, so we will see better looking games.

I doubt the Vita's full power is used, either.

#4487 New Controller Limitations?

Ah, it's the BoyCube+. To be honest, Nintendo already revealed it yesterday, admitting that the WiiU was a bad joke. The Zelda demo was a bad camera recording from one of those controllers, the BoyCube+ is capable of 4k at 120FPS =D

If they dare to attack Ninty, they'll lose. 'Cause I'm gonna found a new religion, a religion with Miyamoto-sama as god, and I'm gonna start a crusade! HELL YEAH, ANON'S GONNA BE OWNED BY US NINTY FANBOYS!

#4564 Alleged PSN hackers caught

Posted by Guest on 10 June 2011 - 11:26 AM in General Gaming

Before you guys start ranting about cruel hackers, let me say that the word "hacker" is commonly misused. "Real" hackers usually don't brick other people's PCs and don't steal data from servers. Please remember to use the word "cracker" in a case like the PSN one - that's the name "good" hackers use for "bad" ones. If you see someone sp34k1n9 l33tsp34k or talking about h4xing n00bx0rz, it's a h4x0r brainless cracker.

#81846 Books

The Name of the Wind/The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss (they're books 1 and 2 of the Kingkiller Chronicles, which is supposed to be a trilogy)!

Who doesn't like the story of Kvothe, a tragic antihero: A boy whose parents die by the hands of a group of people thought to be fairytales; a student who discovers that there are things and beings in this world, long forgotten by most; a magician who turns the world upside down in his quest for revenge; a man that could have gained everything, but ended up losing even his own identity! Admit that sounds good! Let me kvothe (see what I did there) the excerpt from book one available on Pat's blog:

My name is Kvothe, pronounced nearly the same as "quothe." Names are important as they tell you a great deal about a person. I've had more names than anyone has a right to. The Adem call me Maedre. Which, depending on how it's spoken, can mean The Flame, The Thunder, or The Broken Tree.

"The Flame" is obvious if you've ever seen me. I have red hair, bright. If I had been born a couple of hundred years ago I would probably have been burned as a demon. I keep it short but it's unruly. When left to its own devices, it sticks up and makes me look as if I have been set afire.

"The Thunder" I attribute to a strong baritone and a great deal of stage training at an early age.

I've never thought of "The Broken Tree" as very significant. Although in retrospect, I suppose it could be considered at least partially prophetic.

My first mentor called me E'lir because I was clever and I knew it. My first real lover called me Dulator because she liked the sound of it. I have been called Shadicar, Lightfinger, and Six-String. I have been called Kvothe the Bloodless, Kvothe the Arcane, and Kvothe Kingkiller. I have earned those names. Bought and paid for them.

But I was brought up as Kvothe. My father once told me it meant "to know."

I have, of course, been called many other things. Most of them uncouth, although very few were unearned.

I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.

You may have heard of me.

#6908 Has Nintendo made a Mario Kart for everyone of their consoles?

Actually, what I meant by Mario Kart Arcade is a "Donkey Kong" style Arcade. This pre-NES stuff, not something like in these pics.

#6746 Skyward Sword coming 9/25/2011 ?

Posted by Guest on 15 June 2011 - 03:35 AM in General Gaming

but why do you think the game is going to disappoint???

Don't know about Jabob, but my own hype got washed away by the WiiU tech demo. I know that Skyward Sword's gameplay is going to be extremely awesome, but somehow, I don't look forward to it as much as I did before seeing the tech demo.

Oh, forget it, just talking about it hypes me up, I can't wait anymore! Bring it on, Nintendo!
Funny how it already got reviewed 4 times.

On topic, I think that they should be ready by now. I mean, wasn't there an interview a long time ago where either Miyamoto or Aonuma said that they would have been ready if they hadn't changed the art style? And that the art style change took them one year of developing time? Well, since I don't remember anything more about it, this interview could very well date one year back, in which case they should be nearing completion soon.

#4443 How powerful do you think project cafe will be?

Posted by Guest on 08 June 2011 - 10:01 PM in Wii U Hardware

There's a rumor going on on NeoGAF saying that the WiiU's CPU is based on Watson's Power7 CPU. Although that doesn't mean that your WiiU could beat you in Jeopardy because Watson's a gigantic cluster with 2880 cores and 16 TB of RAM, it still means that the WiiU uses considerably newer tech than PS360. Let's hope the GPU will be good enough not to bottleneck the CPU.

What I wanted to say is that they're not 1080p with good AA. I once plugged both my Wii and my bro's notebook to my TV and ran Twilight Princess on both - trust me, the difference is even bigger than you might think... it's mind-blowing.

Furthermore, Wind Waker in HD is one of the best-looking games I've ever seen. Many fans might hate the style but WW aged much better than most other games.

BTW, if you're planning on playing your GC/Wii games on a PC/notebook, you've got to get a drive capable of reading the discs. That is, if you don't want your PC to be full of viruses :P
The only request I have is... a complete video walktrough of SMG, SMG2, Z:WW, Z:TP and MP:T. Have fun! :D

E3 is coming closer and I though you guys would like to see some good screenshots of Wii/GC games. I wanted to make some own screenshots at first, but I ran into some problems and now I've searched for and found some pics in the world wide web. Enjoy!

And BTW, if they're too big, I'll link the pics in the future. I was just too lazy 'cause linking takes more copy+paste. Also, these pics aren't HD.

#81856 RUMOUR: Final Fantasy XV leaked, Wii U/PS3 multiplat?

#3525 Dolphin Screenshots

Posted by Guest on 01 June 2011 - 11:44 AM in General Gaming

Actually, it's pretty easy. The probably best-known GC/Wii emulator is Dolphin. You download it for free, unzip it and then you're almost ready to play - at least if you are able to dump your games to your PC. To do that, you need a special DVD drive. The drives most commonly used are the GDR-8164b, GDR-8163b, GDR-8162b and GDR-8161b from LG. You can buy them at eBay for approximately 15 - 20 €. There are other drives that can read GC/Wii discs, too, so trying to dump them with your current drive won't hurt. To dump the games you need software like Friidump or Rawdump, which are free. You can also download the .iso files as a torrent, but I personally don't recommend that :D

Well, after that, you can configure your Wiimote to work with your PC (if you've got Bluetooth) or you can use an Xbox360 gamepad. They can be used with PCs AFAIK and Dolphin lets you configure the controls as you like. You can even use your keyboard, but that's not really comfortable. Anyways, I recommend you to visit the Dolphin forums if you're looking for special configurations for a certain game as every game needs other settings to run well. Not to forget that you need a good graphics card for good performance.

The cool thing is, Dolphin supports WiiMotion+ and even 3D! A shame my PC's too slow :P

PS: Err, it REALLY irritates me that IP.Board links all brand names to eBay shop sites. Is this on purpose, Feld0?

#81830 Is it time we all must choose what we really want from gaming?

Posted by Guest on 30 May 2012 - 07:56 AM in Wii U Hardware

I don't care about the console, I just want some new Ninty games. That's all. If Nintendo starts developing Mario browser games, I'll play them (don't look down on browser games!).

#5916 What do YOU want the Wii U to be for the consumer?

Posted by Guest on 14 June 2011 - 10:58 AM in Wii U Hardware

Define hardcore.
In my eyes, a "hardcore" gamer is someone who plays solely for the sake of gaming and having fun while doing it.

CoD is even more casual than Wii Sports from my point of view. The casual gamers playing Wii Sports might not care about gaming at all, but they're having fun while gaming. Everyone I know who plays CoD thinks of people who don't like CoD or Battlefield as "nerds". Thus, they don't play because of wanting to play games, they play for the coolness factor of FPS's while denying that they're gamers themselves. This is not casual gaming, it's even worse, it's the betrayal of gaming. And that makes them not even a bit hardcore at all. Well, maybe hardcore dumb.

If you're looking for real hardcore games though, games with a high difficulty, with a good gameplay, with huge worlds, count me in.

And no, I'm not a philosopher.

#4684 WiiU 's AMD GPU supports Eyefinity

Posted by Guest on 11 June 2011 - 10:57 PM in Wii U Hardware

This thread originally was about that the WiiU is likely to get a Radeon HD 5XXX, but if you guys want to derail this thread that badly, I will join in :DIs there some possibility that Nintendo could use some kind of short range W-LAN to connect additional WiiUMotes? This "U-LAN" would be WiiUMote-only, another W-LAN device wouldn't be accepted by the console. The controller is able to play games without the console, so it should be able to have some kind of config screen where you can see all U-LAN networks nearby and join once you're approved of by the console. The controller that is shipped with the WiiU uses "his" WiiU as a standard connection, so it will join there automatically without having to be approved of.W-LAN is a very fast kind of connection, so there most likely won't be any bandwith issues. Do you think this is possible?

#4613 WiiU 's AMD GPU supports Eyefinity

Posted by Guest on 11 June 2011 - 04:12 AM in Wii U Hardware

http://www.amd.com/u...2011june07.aspx

In this press release, AMD mentions the custom Radeon HD GPU made for the WiiU to have "...high-definition graphics support; rich multimedia acceleration and playback; and multiple display support."
The multiple display support hints at Eyefinity, which is a feature of 5XXX or newer Radeon HD cards.

Because the GPU Nintendo uses is a custom one, it may still be that they took a 4XXX Radeon HD card and modified it to use Eyefinity, but that's unlikely as the 5XXX series uses less power at a similar performance. And by the way, Eyefinity supports up to 6 screens AFAIK, so we can still hope for the WiiU to allow more than one/two new controllers at the same time...

Doing some quick calculations, streaming a 1280x720 image to the controller at 60 FPS will require roughly 158 MB of bandwidth per second. Add a fairly standard 16-bit 44100 Hz stream of stereo sound to that, as well as sensor, touchscreen, and button readings, and we're at around 160 MB per second, give or take a megabyte.

I'm no expert, but wouldn't streaming a 1280x720 image at 60 FPS and 32-bit color depth require 210.94 MBps?
On the other hand, if we take the rumored 854x480 screen and stream a video signal with 30 FPS and 16-bit color depth, it would need 23.46 MBps for the video. This way you could even use 5 WiiUMotes at the same time.
Wait a second. I'm definitely doing it wrong, because I calculated that you would need  0.46 GBps for Full HD video at 60 FPS and 32 bit color. That would be 1668.55 GB for one hour - this just can't be!

Does someone know how to properly calculate the bandwidth needed to stream a video signal?

EDIT: By the way, a 1920x1080 screen has 2,073,600 pixels, 4 854x480 screens have 409,920*4 = 1,639,680 pixels. The total pixel count would be 3,713,280 pixels. With 60 FPS and 32-bit color depth, 0.83 GB of data every second - if my method of calculating this is right, of course :P

EDIT2: Wait a second, the rumored screen size of 854x480 hasn't been mentioned here yet, right? Anyways, now it has :D
