worst time to release that game. pokemon, mario kart 8 DLC, Sonic boom, potentially Smash bros wii-u.
I'll def pick up this and Sonic, with Smash and Pokémon at a later date.

I have seen it in sites for preorder and it was 60€
Then it is either a place holder price since EU release isn't till January or they have a lot of content added.

Many have been wanting it, but having to buy a brand new handheld for something that, in their eyes, should/could be possible on the normal 3Ds is going to piss them off. Folks are already pissed off woth these new 3Ds, let alome when they finally act as a second gamepad.If it is true, how would that piss people off? Many have been wanting this feature for a long time but it appears the original 3ds hardware was just not enough. If this is indeed true, it's pretty awesome.
If it is bundled with Wii U, expect a bit higher price anyways, and if it's not ... it's just another reason to upgrade to the new 3ds. Of course, no one is forcing you to do anything.

The leveled up character will work only in a certain game mode then? It would be a bit odd to just allow it in any mode. Though I guess that begs the question, in what ways does it level and how does the figure level it up?
They work in all local modes if I remember correctly, during battle you just out the figure on the gamepad and it switches/adds your fighter. How the level up system works hasn't auite been explained but I think they work just like the customization on your normal fighters.

I can't see that happening, it's possible for 2015 but if a 2014 release was planned it would probably have been announced at e3.
For now 2015 is the most logical window.
It was announced as a 2014 release, that's why I'm so sceptical
