#309213 Aonuma says Zelda Wii U will push the hardware to its limits

Right, but you can't really compare Sony and Nintendo. Sony do a lot of other things. And their problems are largely with those other things. The PS4 is probably their single most valuable business. Whereas Nintendos is sadly their handheld (not that sad, I like both)

Actually it's kinda funny. Sony is talking about removing it's TV brand and smartphones. Downsizing even more. Sony is selling buildings. PS brand only thing making profit right now. Sony has closed doen studio's and sold  off SOE.

Nintendo already owns Seattle Mariners to the make money there and now expanding to QOL. Nintendo built a new HQ and gave Intelligent Systems a new building to work in. Retro moved into a much larger studio. Monolith has two studios.

At this rate Sony will only have PlayStation while Nintendo will continue to expand and adapt.

Does any of that affect the gaming at all though? It could. But maybe not, depending on how well they compartmentalise their businesses.

With the size this world supposedly is I can't see a whole new zelda with a whole new world being developed before the end of the wii u's life cycle.

Which makes me wonder since we usually get two zelda games per generation, does WWHD count as one or instead of a second game will we see a new story in the form of large-scale DLC a couple of years down the line?

Yeah, I'd seriously doubt we'll get another on the Wii U. Just consider the 3 we've had on the 3DS as compensation!

#312513 Yooka-Laylee, revealed, officially planned for Wii U

I look forward to the sequel Pea and Anno.

This might be my first kickstarter pledge actually. How do they tend to do the different platforms in terms of pledges cos I only really wanna play it on Wii U? I guess it depends on how they set their milestones but does anyone ever have platform specific pledges?

#312430 Who are YOU voting for?

Posted by Marcus on 27 April 2015 - 12:12 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Liberal Democrats probably. Oh wait......I sense I've confused the context here.

Lol so I look back at the kickstarter page for the first time considering pledging.....

No need at all. Already smashed every record in the book. I think maybe I'll just buy when it comes out. Good job 3D platformer fans, we need to revive this genre.

Genitals are offensive because children do not yet know they have them.

My favourite ever complaint of that variety was someone who wrote in to a TV show on the BBC at one point complaining about nudity with the reason being "breasts are not suitable for children". Brilliant.

I don't care about Amiibos either. But apparently they've sold more than they have WiiUs....

Sure, you might be responsible enough and I don't disagree but call me cynical, I don't have faith in mass population having a proper sense of reason and voting responsibly with their wallets, at least when it comes to gaming

Haha well you've hit upon the dilemna at the heart of mine, and many people's, entire political worldviews! Which is worse? Mob stupidity or state corruption? To be honest, I'm not even sure. It seems to switch from year to year. Look at censorship nowadays. Until quite recently, that was hugely a worry about the government. Now it's a worry about whatever twitter mob happens to arise out of the scum pits.

I would say the main difference is that state legislation is very hard to remove once it's in place. Mob zeitgeist can easily change quickly. For better or worse.

I despise it and I don't see this practice dieing off unless there is some sort of legislation against it.

Yeah, you have the exact opposite thought process as I do.

My position is that there should never ever be legislation for any of it. People should just educate themselves and vote with their money more responsibly. The government should only ever intervene in the market when there's actual harm being done. Not when people are being willing fools.

#311595 So this Splat Toon thing...

Posted by Marcus on 07 April 2015 - 12:38 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I'm definitely getting it. Although I'm skeptical it will remain enjoyable for that long a period. I imagine it'll be the kinda game I play for maybe a week and then only bust out when friends are round. I hope it's successful and reviews well though cos it's a good opportunity for them to start a new series.

#309628 Leaps between generations

Posted by Marcus on 25 February 2015 - 10:20 AM in Wii U Hardware

Basically. Wii U will optimize more over time while PS4 and XBO have no secrets.

What is this based on?

not the huge leap from 32/64bits systems to the 128 bits systems like gamecube, xbox and ps2 or the great leap from these consoles to the ps3 and 360.

That whole bit-rating was largely marketing nonsense. After you get to 32bit, it's mostly just meaningless. As seen by the fact that the vast majority of recent PC games still ran on 32-bit operating systems. (as recent as Assassin's Creed 4)

#309634 Leaps between generations

Posted by Marcus on 25 February 2015 - 11:19 AM in Wii U Hardware

This isnt that likely of a scenario, because of the reasons I already stated, publishers have ZERO interest in actually forwarding the progress of game design and optimization. That requires talent, risk, and motivation. They are far happier to keep things exactly where they are, and use marketing to convince their brainwashed audience that crapping in their face is actually advancment, and anything else is backwards.

Oh sure most of them don't care about that. But some do. If you ever read those graphics white papers or whatever they're called, you do come across companies who innovated on the way to their goal. I believe realtime ambient occlusion was first used in Crysis, for example. I don't know if they entirely invented the algorithm or not but I think they were the first to get it working.

I also read one on how Valve invented a particular kind of improved motion blur for Portal 2.

#309632 Leaps between generations

Posted by Marcus on 25 February 2015 - 10:56 AM in Wii U Hardware

Wii U uses a console architecture. XBO and PS4 are just PC's with a custom OS. PS4 and XBO have diminishing returns. Consoles traditionally because of how they were designed games got better looking over time as they optimized better. PS4 and XBO being a PC you see what they have to offer now.

Not really seeing how this is different for consoles than PCs. "Console architecture" is a completely arbitrary term. The improvements over time happen everywhere. Skyrim looked a lot better than Oblivion because of all of the graphical techniques they learned throughout the last generation. It looked better on consoles and it looked better on PCs. In fact, Skyrim runs on my PC a lot better than Oblivion does.

If anything, I'd think it'd be the exact opposite. PS4 and Xbox are going to increase in potential MORE than the WiiU because they can largely share a knowledge base with PC developers and therefore more pioneering techniques will be discovered for them.

#311593 Zelda Wii u delay = NX launch title?

Posted by Marcus on 07 April 2015 - 12:16 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Bear in mind we still don't know what the NX is. If it's somehow continuous with the prexisting hardware, as one of the images seemed to weakly suggest, it's quite possible the later Wii U games will be used as "launch titles".

I really don't care at this point, I only care that it's coming to the Wii U as that's one of the main reasons I bought the console. The odds of them cancelling it for the Wii U are extremely small I'd say, given how much work they've put into developing it on the platform.

#316108 My Vita vs. New 3DS showdown

Posted by Marcus on 15 July 2015 - 08:52 AM in General Gaming

The 3DS is the better console in pretty much every way imo. I'd even say the lesser specs are maybe beneficial for a contemporary handheld. It just doesn't look like the whole portable Ps3 idea ever really worked out. I think it's tied to the gaming habits. Portables need to be shorter or segmented gaming experiences to entice people in who like game in short bursts. On the commute, on a break at work. Etc etc.

The idea that next Sony handheld, had the Vita been successful, would allow you to be playing something like Witcher 3, FF15, MGS5 type games seems just a misguided idea. Those games need long sessions of dedicated gaming.

I would suggest that's part of the reason the Vita hasn't really worked out as they hope. Though it is very good as an indie machine.

Well make the most of it while you can then! I seriously doubt they're gonna make another.

#313265 Project Cars struggling to hit 30FPS on Wii U... devs might wait for NX

Just downgrade the graphics you goons. Everyone expects it to look worse anyway.

#313273 Project Cars struggling to hit 30FPS on Wii U... devs might wait for NX

Probably something about "Defeating the vision and purpose of the game".

I'd at least enjoy the disappointment if they worded their own response starting with "Probably something about....".

#309204 Legend of Kay Getting Remastered for Wii U , PC

I'm not seeing this on the UK amazon yet. Anyone?

#309215 Legend of Kay Getting Remastered for Wii U , PC

On the US side I can't find it in search anymore however it's still in my wishlist and if I click that the listing shows up. Might just be off the grid so to speak until official info is updated.

Mmmmm yeah, info on the internet seems to find its way into the public somehow. Either way, I hope the prices being mentioned here are the final prices and not some placeholder. I'll almost definitely buy this if it comes at budget price. Assuming they've actually remastered it of course. A direct port, maybe not.

I want to but can't. I am not sure I can get Splatoon and XCX CD at the same time whatever the case XCX CD comes first. I wanna see peoples impressions first. Game sounds like a decent romp.

There'll probably be a big gap between those I'm guessing. Especially with Zelda being delayed.

#312172 AngryJoeShow Nintendo Rant

Posted by Marcus on 20 April 2015 - 02:35 PM in General Gaming

I think the issue is not about the ad revenue, but more so that Nintendo wants to protect it's IP and be able to control how it is delivered to the consumer.

I suspect this is likely correct.

I remember my young 5 year old cousin being a huge Mario fan and wanting to watch Mario on youtube because his parents wouldn't buy him a console. I remember them then complaining that they found what seemed like a good lets play video but the commentator started swearing a few minutes in (they're the type that really irrationally care about that).

I think it's probably a similar thing as to why they're not having voice chat in Splatoon. They're aware of what the internet is like and they want to do whatever they can to keep the brand identity constant. Of course I could be wrong. They could just be idiots and think this is better for business. Which it isn't.

#308615 Legend of Kay Getting Remastered for Wii U , PC

I'd love to see some footage or screenshots of this if anyone's noticed any (the remaster)? If it's a remaster along the same lines as the 3DS Zeldas, id definitely be interested. I'm guessing it's probably more of a Vita style remaster though. Which probably means exactly the same game in a new resolution.

Isn't the soundtrack all kinda J-pop rubbish?
