#231082 Ubisoft – Zombie U “wasn’t even close to being profitable”

Posted by Elem187 on 12 July 2013 - 11:41 AM in Wii U Games and Software

That's the thing-he never said anything about Zombie U. The only quote related to Ubisoft or the Wii U was the reassessment after the holidays. After that, the article makes stuff up as though it was an interview, and it placed the Moore stuff in there for authenticity. The reader is left to presume the source talked to the Ubi CEO, but in fact, it did not.

Just about everyone read it, presumed it was authentic, but it was just click bait.  It was like a cable news story.

Thats just par for the course most of gaming journalism.. they love sensationalism... since the Wii U is on its back, they take pot shots at it hoping to draw in hits (they make money off hits to the article) ... so why not create articles that Nintendo fan boys will come out of the woodwork to defend in the comments section... each click is another dime in their pocket.

#231076 Ubisoft – Zombie U “wasn’t even close to being profitable”

Posted by Elem187 on 12 July 2013 - 11:28 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I think ZombiU Had sales of 450k.

if ubisoft couldnt profit off a game that pulled in 13.5 million (450k x $30 usd) maybe its their budgeting that needs to be adjusted? Where did that 13.5 million go? The texture work is atrocious, it needs polish, game breaking bugs.

I'm just not buying it wasn't profitable..... perhaps what he meant is "it didn't sell as well as I liked, we made our money back but the profit wasn't enough for us to continue investing..... but the idea that 450k wasn't successful is hard to comprehend.

#231075 The Wii U's lack of 3rd party is largely the fault of 3rd party and I...

Posted by Elem187 on 12 July 2013 - 11:24 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Third parties are not charities... Its Nintendo's responsibility to make the system attractive to third parties.. the only way to do that is to release their big games to build the install base.

#231071 Taking pictures in Pikmin 3 (Video)

Posted by Elem187 on 12 July 2013 - 11:19 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I hope there will be an option to save them on an SD card or something in 1080p resolution, otherwise the beauty of the photo would be lost due to MiiVerse worsening its quality.

From everything I have seen this photo mode doesn't have any arthroscopic filtering. So when you go into photo mode the zoomed up photo has some really nasty ground textures, which would probably benefit from a lower resolution.

But a question, the game is confirmed to be rendered in 720p, what gain would we get from saving photos in 1080p? 720p photos would be the maximum benefit because the game is rendered in 720p (only upscaled to 1080p after that if you have a 1080p tv)

#231065 Miyamoto: Wii U Is Even Easier Than Previous Consoles To Develop For

Posted by Elem187 on 12 July 2013 - 10:55 AM in Wii U Games and Software

If I'm getting this right, they have a hard time developing for it because the leap from normal definition to HD but at the same time they find it the easiest out of the other consoles?

My fanboyism, i want to defend Nintendo... but I can't...

Spoiler

OBJECTION! Clearly a contradiction!

Disagree, having hardware easier to program for is one thing, but having to design assets in higher resolutions can be more time consuming.

So the nerdy programming part of development could be easier (which it should because they are still using a powerpc based processor and AMD (previous ati) GPU..... since the system is considerably faster than the Wii (like up to x100 times as powerful) they don't have to make nearly as many compromises as they had to produce content on the Wii.

Its simple to imagine if you seperate the two sides of development, the actually programming, logic and engine with the other side the asset creation of creating character models and animating them, texturing them...... from what i gathered from Shiggy in previous statement its Nintendo misjudged how long it would take to create assetts in HD, not that its difficult to actually program for the Wii U.. The hardware is pretty similar to the Wii in architecture (both powerpc's with AMD GPU's) so the groundwork on how to work with a given processor shouldn't change too much except gaining a buttload of processing power in the process.

I don't think ubisoft has claimed they had any trouble developing for it, in fact they had several titles ready for launch in almost no time. Activision or WB haven't complained about difficulty. Tecmo didn't have any trouble getting a few titles ready for the system.. Indie developers are praising how easy it is to develop for and how powerful it is.... it seems like the only people are having issues with development are the people who's games don't really sell very well on the system (EA). Are we to believe small time two man development teams like two tribes think the system is a breeze to develop for, but the big house EA developers are having issues with it? Sounds like EA didn't even trying, minus criterion, who said it wasn't really difficult to program for.

Can we compare all the publishers and indie devs that don't have any problems with the hardware with the lonesome publisher having issues, aka EA ?

That in itself sounds like the wii u has additional potential though. Criterion probably had to utilise the gpu more to take some tasks off the cpu.

So its more like a PC where a developer pushes everything to the GPU (PC developers have to compensate that most of their customers probably have old CPU's so they concentrate on the GPU because thats the point where PC gamers usually upgrade first)

#231064 Thinking about selling my Wii U guys...

Posted by Elem187 on 12 July 2013 - 10:38 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I read your OP and still do not see the logic in selling something you might not get much more than $200 usd/eur for, only to repurchase next year for $250 eur/usd (if there even is a price cut)

You would be losing quite a bit of money by selling it now before the parade of games start releasing (next month here in NA) or in a couple weeks in Europe.

The PS4 isn't so drastically expensive that you absolutely have to sell the Wii U to afford it, no? Unemployed will make the diliemna much harder, because how are you going to afford the ps4 even after selling the Wii U?

Hold on to it, as the PS4 is going through its growing pains of a new console, the Wii U will already be coming out of them....

Personally i'm looking to buy a new gaming PC sometime this year, but I wouldn't sell my Wii U to afford any component of my new PC because the Wii U is just on the cusp of coming out of the dreaded software drought.

#213311 Nintendo Lists Best Buy E3 Demo Locations

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 10:07 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Its really cool that there is a location less than 5 minutes from me... But what sucks is you only have 4 hours to play it on June 12th and 4 hours to play it on June 15th

I have a feeling I will get there and wait in line and they will be closed by the time it gets to be my turn.

#213310 De-Hyping E3

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 10:05 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I thought it was actually confirmed that only screenshots of SSB4 would be shown.

The game didn't even start production in January... We will be lucky if they even have screenshots for more than 5 characters ready.

Anyone expecting a trailer, or a demo is absolutely delusional... even more delusional are the people that think the full game it will be ready to release this year or next

Expect a 2015 release along side of Zelda HD.

  :(   :(  NOA is evil for not getting the game out sooner.

How early is Europe getting it?

#213308 Wii U version of RE: Revelations "Visibly Less refine than PS360"

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 09:51 AM in Wii U Games and Software

It is capable of DX11.1 equivalents.  The notion that it is limited to 10.1 features only came from a GDC panel where they were talking specifically about Unity engine and what it is currently capable of on Wii U, they also confirmed that as Unity for Wii U is updated over the next few months, it will

support the full Unity 4 Pro feature set.

I didn't suggest it was limited to 10.1, just thats the last directx revision we can use until dx11. We know its OpenGL 4.0, and that does put it above dx10.1 but not quite dx11. I haven't seen any confirmation the Wii U GPU would be compatible with dx11, let alone dx11.1.. is there a source? I'm not calling you out, I just never seen anything regarding it

11.1 would indicate that its at least a Radeon 7000 in the Wii U. i haven't seen anything that would suggest Nintendo went with a 7000 series GPU (The highest i have it pegged as is 6000 series).

If this is the case then there is no reason why the Wii U couldn't display the same level of effects (performance withholding) as the PS4.. I mean as far as we know rumors have suggested that Microsoft went with a Radeon 6000 series (so far every rumor about the xbox 1 has turned out to be true). I just find it hard to believe Nintendo went with a more advanced GPU than Microsoft. That is fantastic news if true.

#213305 Why do I have a Wii U?

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 09:35 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I do the same thing. I was playing Resident Evil Revelations last night on the gamepad out on my balcony.... beautiful night here in central florida last night, light breeze, drizzle rain...

Is the door an Xbox One? It's about the same size.

if nextgen means paying an extra fee to play rented/used games, and having to phone home every 24 hours to ask for permission to play my games, I think I'll pass.

#213304 Funky Barn VS Fast and Furious

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 09:31 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I rented Funky Barn for my wife (She's addicted to Farm games on Facebook), and she loved it as well.

its not even a good comparison. Fast n Furious is a complete abomination of a title. There is at least some enjoyment in Funky Barn.

#213301 Wii U version of RE: Revelations "Visibly Less refine than PS360"

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 09:23 AM in Wii U Games and Software

You guys do realize the game, all three versions, are100% the same geometry, texture, and lighting wise right?

You do realize this is a 3ds game right? Anyone who tries to make comparisons regaurding this game and graphics power is a hack who has no idea what they are talking about.

The wii u lighting is not better, its not worse, its exactly the same.

Mtframework is an engine built ground up for 360/ps3, taylor made to the hardware.

the mtframework mobile on 3ds was made ground up for the hardware, and optimized over the course of every capcom 3ds game before reveleations.

sf4, re mercenaries, lost planet etc, before it got running as smooth as it did on 3ds. Do you people REMEMBER the hiccups early mtframework 3ds games like mercenaries had?

The silent hill hd collection runs like crap compared to the ps2 games. That doesnt mean the hdtwins are only on par or slightly worse than ps2.

It means nothing except mtframework hasnt been used and optimisedon wii u as much as it has on other systems. It probably wont be used much at all on wii u past 3ds games on wii u.

Anyone who thinks the Wii U's GPU is the same as the 360/ps3 are completely delusional.

The GPU in the Wii U is far more modern, newer shaders (appear to be 90% larger than that of r700 series), more effecient texture compression, built in tesselator, more advanced lighting effects, post fx processing.

The GPU in the Wii U has been confirmed to have a similar feature set as Directx 10.1 (Nintendo is actually using OpenGL 4 specification which is more advanced than Directx 10.1)

While the GPU's in the PS360 were made way back in 2005, which the equivalent of Directx 9 level of effects.

i'm not even talking about power (it should be at least 2x ps360 gpu's anyhow), but as far as feature set its a very modern GPU.

You should probably do some reading up the crappy old 7800 cards (The equivalent that is in the x360).. You can pick up the very lowest end Radeon 6000 card for dirt cheap that will run circles around it, with modern feature set to boot. At the moment nobody has pin pointed what the GPU in the Wii U is based on, but we do know it can handle any modern effect found in 2011 built cards, so at the bare minimum its a Radeon 5000 series, which again is several GPU generations ahead of the PS360.

#213292 Wii U version of RE: Revelations "Visibly Less refine than PS360"

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 08:54 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Wtf? I just played the game, it looks comparable to the pc version at high settings. What a load of carp!

Eurogamer/Digital Foundry have been going out of there way constantly to cast the Wii U in the worst possible light.

They were already caught a few times embellishing things... Like their comparison with Trine 2 from all the versions. Their first article slammed the Wii U for all sorts of things, like lower resolutions, texture quality and particle effects compared to the PS360 versions... then the devs posted at that review and corrected them that the Wii U version is the only console version running in full 720p, while the PS360 version were in fact running Sub HD resolutions.. The Wii U version also had the PC level of effects the PS360 couldn't run.

Remember Need for Speed MW? They downplayed everything the Wii U had over the PS360 version.. ssaying things like the high resolution textures is only minimally better than the PS360 version, etc etc....

I don't take anything DF/Eurogamer has to say about any Wii U  game. They seem to have this built in bias against Nintendo. The site is complete crap. I have Re;R on Wii u and it plays fine.. I don't see any skips.

#213287 Retro may be working on new IP

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 08:45 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Any and all rumors regarding anything Nintendo are complete bunk.. Nobody locks down information tighter than Nintendo.

Sony/Microsoft might like to intentionally leak information, but Nintendo tends to hold on to everything so they can drop bombs at a moments notice.

#213286 Rubbish Article Saying Wii U Should Abandon MiiVerse....

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 08:44 AM in Wii U Games and Software

This is probably written by a fanboy of Microsoft or Sony that wants Nintendo to get rid of anything that differentiates the Wii U from the competition.

Miiverse is a huge bright spot on the Wii U... The sense of community with other Nintendo gamers, asking for help in a game, to sharing interesting scenes from inside games.

it would be down right suicide for Nintendo to remove one of their best features... If anything I'm probably going to end up blocking my friends on facebook who own PS4 because they keep spamming me with videos showing how terrible they are at shooters.

#213284 Recomendation i will buy 1 game only. help me.

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 08:34 AM in Wii U Games and Software

MH3U or ZombiU.

If you like MMO style games, go with MH3U.

If you like very intense games go with ZombiU.

#213282 Nintendo Leaked Wind Waker Remake Art

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 08:33 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Amazing. :P

Hmmmm, looks like the new 3D Mario will have "Bros." in the name, then... Maybe there will be co-op... :o

EDIT: Or, maybe that's some other SMB game. :P

I think it will be local co-op..

Shiggy mentioned in an interview that they would love to do simultaneous co-op in 3D Mario but felt splitscreen would be too difficult... Could you imagine trying splitscreen multi with the galaxy games? It would be awfully hard to hit jumps right.... The Wii U gamepad makes this possible without the splitscreen.

We now know the next Sonic game will be two player competitive... So why not Mario? or make it co-op anyways.

#213276 Super Mario One

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 08:24 AM in Wii U Games and Software

How about just calling the game Super Mario U(niverse) ?

But instead of mario in space, lets go do an open world mushroom kingdom....

I'm curious what EAD Tokyo is going to do to top the galaxy games, as of right now those two were the very best games I have ever played... visually I hope they experiment in different levels with different art styles, like in one part of the game do yarn, another do clay-mation, do a galaxy like level, do one photo-realistic, etc. etc.

#213274 Mario Kart U Discussion.

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 08:19 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Online voice chat, it needs it!! :D

I've been wanting voice chat in a kart racer for a very long time... I bought Sega All stars transformed thinking SEGA would do it, but nope.

Definitely needs two local multiplayer co-op, where both can go online to race, one player on TV, one player on gamepad would be sick.

Above all, I want them to remove the rubberband from this series.... You know when a racer falls far behind in a race, the game gives them every single power-up that relates to speed to pull the player into contention like a rubber band.

#213272 Nintendo should start advertising like they used to

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 08:17 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Wait is that Paul Rudd in the first commercial?

I think it will.

Especially with the resurgence in studios making RPGs and the success of monster hunter.

The time is right.

It will probably sell as well as Fire Emblem: Awakening did.

But if they released it sooner during the great big Nintendo Wii U drought they could possibly sell a copy to most of the userbase.

#213270 Pikmin 3 - new screenshots

Posted by Elem187 on 30 May 2013 - 08:09 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I feel they could of done more with the graphics.

I don't think they could have without a complete top down redesign of the engine... This game started out as a Wii game. the engine was designed for the Wii... towards the end of the Wii's life they decided to move it to the next project.

So its a Wii game, with upgraded textures... But look at the brightside, the game should be 60fps.

60fps > high fidelity 30fps.

I'll take any game any day of the week at 60fps then even Killzone Shadow fall (30 fps)

#201482 Do you think the Wii U will ever have any collectors editions

Posted by Elem187 on 29 April 2013 - 08:20 AM in General Gaming

Judging on how bad AC3, I think we are lucky not to get a special edition of 4.

I like Ubisoft games and all, but AC3 was almost as glitchy as Darksiders II and Epic Mickey 2 were.

I know its a bit early thinking of that since it was a system launch, but since NeatherRealms flat out said they were not making any editions for the Wii version of Injustice so that got me worrying. You know would I really love to see, Nintendo making collectors editions, their value would cost a fortune in time.

But a little light has shown because Ubisoft listed their AC4 collectors edition on Wii U for you lovely people in the UK as shown here
