Can someone explain the point of having Mario Party on a handheld? Does it have online multiplayer or something?

gaming on the go i guess, Mario Party DS was really good and i had alot of fun playing locally with my friends, but now, seems like they ampd up the difficulty. But y'know its for the kids like it did to me back then with so many mario games. Now i just don't even care except for the 3D Mario games and Kart series.
