Clearly those people have no idea what MIDI really is and how it is used.
When I wasn't heavily involved in MIDI years ago in the 90s, I thought it had a generic sound (the old FM synthesis quality). That was until I got educated about it over the past five or so years. Little do people know you can map it to have all kinds of realistic effects. The problem is people don't really know it and they think MIDI is just a sequenced song file with generic sounds. How wrong they are.
I really like the variety that MIDI has. You can have that very synthetic sound to a more realistic orchestrated sound.

Lol back when the internet was young, and MP3s were difficult to find, I would listen to MIDIs. Now, no I don't listen to them.

In this thread, I'm mainly referring to video game music made through a MIDI format.

Most video game music is instrumental right? Anyway, when I did listen to MIDI it was from games mostly of the NES variety. Like SMB3, SMB, LOZ, etc.

Very true. They are just a more unique type of instrumental. I personally find music from the SNES and N64 the most fascinating!

Nice. Thankfully though we're able to get MP3s now, but back then MIDI's were great too.

It all depends what emotions or feelings you are trying to convey. I personally like MIDI music better in my games.

majora's mask like you mentioned, probably Mario kart 64 great intro music! I started gaming on n64 so I kindof missed out on most of the midi generation
As for orchestrated I would say this is my favorite of all time! -

I'm almost positive Orchestrated Music didn't make an appearance in gaming until the 6th generation. (PS2, GameCube, Xbox, etc.)
